I saw the rule changes for NHRA P/S last night, and I can't say I like it or not until I see it. It seems to me NHRA is trying to build some excitement in P/S for the FOX Network and they say the changes should cut cost. (I don't know about that $$$) I think the toughest change is the wheelie bars being shorter since the cars have lots of trouble with tire shake and unloading on the wheelie bars at times already. 60 foot times are going to slow down for sure. If NHRA wanted to make a class more affordable so more race teams could get involved then why did they get rid of the small block Pro Stock Truck class? The class had the most cars show up at almost all of it's scheduled events then any other class during the short life of the class.

Yes Al Pro Stock is the class she drives in. That's sure going to look different/funny/odd?? I don't know what to think about it either. Seems to me like things have been pretty exciting the way they were. Oh well....Corporate America strikes again....lol.

The biggest change will be the 10,500 rpm rev limiters. Hopefully this will bring in some new competitors to the class that don't have the big budgets to run with the class now. We went to the Mile Hi Nationals yesterday and some of the teams already had their cars uncovered in the pits, that was nice to see. I imagine in 2017 they will be back to a more stock appearing car rather than the Pro Mod look that they have today. That has been needed for a long time.
Well atleast the Mountain Motor Pro Stocks still have their scoops so no body changes coming for the ISRA MM/PS class anytime soon.

It makes me sad that their changing things, Pro stock is the closest racing in drag racing, you rarely get that in the nitro classes. I agree that it will look weird after decades of scoops on the cars.

Doesn't matter what the cars look like when you have a Finals like yesterday with Larry Morgan and Allen Johnson. Man that was an exciting race........classic staging duel. Doesn't sound like these changes are very popular with the racers either. It will all work out in the end. It's not going to keep me from watching that's for sure.

That was classic! a one minute and 45 second staging duel... I was loving it and to see AJ throw a tantrum afterwards made it even better. It was a well deserved victory for Larry who had to go through some heavy hitters (Line, Enders and Johnson) to get the event win. All the pro finals were really close except for F/C when Force had some issues late in the run otherwise that would have been a great race as well.

Adding electronic FI is not going to cut costs. I t may save tuning and setup time, but the expense will increase. The lack of a scoop is a turnoff for me, FI cars need air too. You are also going to confuse the average spectators as they will not know the difference between a Top Sportsman and a Pro Stock now. Cowl hoods are going to double in price and Pro Stock scoops will be half off LOL.
I personally am not a fan of the changes. I think it does little to help, possibly even increases the cost of racing and takes away from the overall look. The field this weekend had only 15 Pro Stocks, these changes will not help that IMO.

I agree it was well deserved for Larry. I am a Ford fan, but the way they did him and others that stayed loyal was not right. I am glad to see him get some rewards now that he's switched to GM. I saw AJ throw the water bottle, but they didn't say too much about it. I was wondering if he was pissed at Larry. Happy go lucky Larry was all about the staging dual in the interview. It was all great!!

I think it will cut cost somewhat. Buying multiple sets of carbs from multiple companies as compared to just tuning what you have has to save money. Its not like one set of carbs is going to be the end all beat all carbs. I don't see how just switching to FI automatically means flat hoods as the manifold didn't know if there was carbs or FI going on it. They say the hood scoop takes 100hp to push it down track, if they could keep the same HP with a flat hood, 100 HP is huge. I hope/think that the rev limiter will keep the cost down by not having to buy exotic lightweight materials. All the hoods are carbon fibre already, cant see that going up. This set of changes could be just the beginning. If they don't do some it will be the end of the class. Changing everything all at once would kill it all together. I am looking forward to see the class coming back and lots of cars in the lanes to qualify. Bob www.robertirvin.comAdding electronic FI is not going to cut costs. After reading the artical, Peter Clifford sounds like a double talk master. If you have the closest racing it seems natural that you would want to promote that not upset it. Making the cars do more wheelstands just sounds dumb to me, but thats my opinion. These cars are suppose to be the top class of natural aspiration. I hope the cars still look and act that way after the changes. I really love prostock, its my favorite of the classes, I dont want it to be deminished because of some percieved problem.
