My 3 grandsons (ages 12 and under) spent the nite over the weekend and saw the HO drag strip set up. When asked if they could race on it. How could I refuse? After explaining the tree, RT and ET they took right to it. We took turns running best 2 out of 3 races with the looser having to make room for the next racer. I let them pick out the cars they liked and would find a comparable car run run against it. Man, their reaction times were amazing! I red lighted a few times trying to get a jump on them. Must be the young eyes and reflexes. Since they had raced on a large slot car track in a store the previous weekend, they asked if we could build a road course to race on. We built a 4 lane oval, using 1/43 Carrera go track that I got when they were much younger. The boys really did well on that too. They really pushed Papa' 5 decades of experience hard. The days where I give them cars too slow to fall off the track are history. Its nice to see them so enthusiastic about the hobby I've loved for so long. Guess it's time to let them have a go at HO road racing, maybe even do some chassis' tear down and rebuilds, to let them discover the joy of technical end of the sport.

My grandsons do not have much interest in drag or road racing the HO cars, they are of similar age 10-12. I gave them a road and drag racing set but they do not use them anymore. Seems the video games are to compelling, I play some of them to. They did surprisingly well when I showed them how to take the AFX style cars apart and put them back together.
