Here are a couple of old gassers warring it out in a blast from the past. Back in my day Gassers were the most popular classes next to the stockers. Why NHRA dropped the Gas classes and kept other obscure classes is beyond my understanding. The 57 Chevy has a Tyco 440 chassis with a 3.5 ohm arm and stock motor magnets. The 55 is an AFX style chassis with a 1.5 ohm arm and poly magnets. This race was close in ET but the hole shot the 57 put on the 55, (both started at the same time), made the actual result almost a .02 difference. Note the 55 was charging hard at the finish and in a longer race it would have eventually passed up the 57 Injected 55 & 57 Chevy's

Back in the time 90% of the cars at the track were Stockers or Gassers.

There is a group called South Eastern Gassers that tours throughout the southeast. Their web site is pretty interesting.
