kDog,
I got my car back. Thanks again for the run. The setup block is sweet, thanks also to SlotCarInc.

KDog, what timing system are you using on that track? I notice you use a laptop, does it have windows 98 on it? I have the trackmate budget system but it says it runs on computers with windows 98, will it work with xp? Thanks

Dave,
I have the TrackMate budget system, and I've run it successfully on a laptop with XP. The big problem is that the budget system runs in DOS, not in Windows, so when it opens, it's in a little, tiny box on the screen. I can barely see the "Tree" on my system. It's OK for testing, but it would be very difficult to run a race on my setup because the drivers can't see the Tree clearly at any distance.
I ended up running the budget system on an ancient laptop with Win 95 and a low-res screen, and then using an external LCD monitor. That gave me a full-screen display that was good enough to run a club race. To make it work, I have to run it off an external "A" floppy drive -- it won't run on the internal C hard drive, and it won't log the runs to the C drive (I'm sure that someone who is smarter than me on computers has a better work-around). If I hadn't taken all of my old DOS computers to the recycler, I think that would be the best solution.
Because of the inherent limitations of the budget system, I've given up and ordered a Trackmate 2000 system from Daniel for our next club race. The budget system is OK for what it costs, but I wouldn't recommend it for anything more than test 'n' tune unless you have a computer that's happy with DOS.
Hope this helps, Rick V.

Thanks Rick, It sounds like its a little bit of a pain. I have a computer with windows 98 that I planned on dedicating to the track, only thing I need is a nice lcd monitor and they go for about $150. My goal is to use the track with the budget system until I get enough friends wanting to race and possibly hold a proxy race or something like that. $450 is a little pricey for me just so I can race by myself. I also like the external tree feature too! In the long run, I hope to start construction on a home in the spring of '10 so once thats done, I will get the track in the basement and start racing once a week or so, it should be fun. Thanks again.

Dave,
I think that for what you want to do, the budget system will work just fine. You'll need to work through the DOS/Windows issues, but even if the Tree display is tiny on your Win 98 system, it will stiil be OK for running by yourself or with a few friends.
Good luck, Rick V.

actually the display isn't that small on the basic program. here is a screen shot of a 15" monitor. to make it bigger just expand it to full screen. mine runs fine off the hard drive on both the laptop and the desktop. also you don't have to go into dos mode to run the program. i have an icon right on my desktop.

440gtx,
Can you give me some details on your system -- which version of Win you are running and how you configured the monitor and resolution? I've tried like heck to get the Trackmate Budget system to run full-screen on an XP laptop, even had Daniel on the telephone for 30 minutes trying to get it to work, but so far no success. You've obviously got it figured out, so I'd appreciate any pointers.
Thanks, Rick V.

Rick, I'm running win98 on my laptop and winME on the desktop. I've never tried to run it on XP. On 98 and ME when you open the program you can click on a box with 4 arrows pointing out and that will take it to full screen. The box is in a toolbar at the top of the window. Once you click that box, it will always open full screen. I'm running my resolution at 800X600. I use the laptop on my portable track and the desktop for my permanent track.
If I remember correctly the program disk has an install program. I'm pretty sure that I ran that to put it on the hard drive. It's been a while so I not positive about the install.

Thanks for the tips on this! On my laptop's XP system, it didn't like the install program at all -- it just gagged on it so that might be the source of my problems. I also didn't have the full screen option when I opened it in a DOS window on XP. I do have an ancient Win 95 desktop with a 15" monitor, so when I get back home, I will give that a try and see if it works. Sometimes computers even make racing T-jets seem simple <g>.
