Somewhere in central California . . . the quiet of a Thursday afternoon is shattered by Chevy Thunder. At a secluded track, two teams are making final preparations for the NTRA March Madness. There is much to do, and time is short . . . Bill Jenkins is working through his test routine with his big-block Camaro. The Jenkins Super Crew is working through a long list: Tire changes, pickup shoe adjustments, two motor swaps, change the top gears, try different rim sizes, strong and weak magnets . . . Grumpy is definitely grumpy today. Dave Strickler is tuning the high-winding Chevy small-block in his Camaro. His SS/F mouse motor gives away nearly 100 inches to Jenkins' rat motor, but with less weight, the copper Camaro is turning competitive times. Strickler is quick on the lights, and he's working on honing the reaction times. He knows that the Mopars he'll face at PMS are powerful, and the Fords will be formidable. The sun is setting, the fog is rolling in off the Pacific, and there's nothing left to do but load 'em on the transporters and head east on I80. It's a long haul to St. Louis, and the weather could be bad in the Rockies. Time to hit the road. As the crews secure their cars in the haulers and load the tool boxes, they are too busy to notice a black Charger with Ohio plates slowly pulling away from a secluded vantage point . . .

My cars are on the way. Keeping my fingers crossed that they will make it on time. Missed T&T and no track at home. All adjustments made using the often deceiving Ninja DynoEar.

...Elsewhere in cold and rainy Ohio... two Mopar teams have finished packing for a trip to middle America. Both teams are cool and relaxed. They were just waiting for their "escort" to arrive. Judy Lilly, driving her Dennis Mauer owned and tuned Miss Mighty Mopar Cuda and Dennis Nicopolis in his Ramchargers Challenger will be making the trip to St. Louis. March weather in Ohio doesn't allow for any last minute testing so the teams will rely on the info gained from pre-season testing. Judy is well known as one of the best on the tree. She is giving Dennis a few pointers and they are constantly using their practice tree. They expect some stiff competition and they have to be on their toes if they want to leave PMS with the trophy.

Two GM cars left on their trailers this morning. Five days ought to be plenty of drive time. See you at the staging lights!
