Hello, iam currently building a 1,000ft track, and wanting some info on battery power. I plan on having Bracket and Heads Up/Class racing on same nite/weekend.
So with that being said, for Class racing, i want to be able to use 2 12v battery wired up for a total of 24V. But i want to be able to switch to 1 12v battery for Bracket/Index racing.
So iam wondering, how does one wire up the batterys to be able to "switch" one on or both batterys on?
Can this be done by a flip of a switch, or do i have to disconnect and connect wires???
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think you could use one of the switches fishermen use for trolling motors to switch between two batteries. The switch wouldn't know the difference if you were switching between two 12 volt batteries or one 12 volt on one side and on the other side 2- 12 volts in series. With HO cars there shouldn't be such a large amount of current flow to kill the switch on the 24 volt side.
I used one on a full size 34 Olds street rod back in the mid 70's as a theft deterrent. All I had to do was reach under the driver's seat and move the lever to the position where there was no battery hooked up. Worked great as nobody noticed me doing it when I was getting out of the car. The battery on a 34 Olds was under the driver's seat so the positive cable was very short to the starter motor. 6 Volts was all they had at the time of manufacter. Course I had 12 volt to start the (Are you listening Sam) 351 Cleveland.

Here is another way you can run them. We run the same battery set up as you mentioned and unhook one battery for some classes. I posted this drawing in another thread but am not even sure if it's any help here. As shown is how we run when both are hooked up. When you want to drop to one battery, just unhook your strap and hook both track leads to one battery. We use aligator clips on our track leads for easy hook up. Here is a basic drawing of running two batteries in series for power to your track. (posted in another thread).

so two 12v car batterys would be perfect for "portable" autoworld drag strip?

Shift, if your running stock cars then you'll be fine with one 12V. The cars will go quicker if you have two 12V in series for a combined 24V but if you're moving the track frequently.... then one 12V might be more convenient.

Sam Conveniece ist realy a problem... the track is just over 13'. 11'5" from start to finish and about a a foot and a half of "shutdown" should I do a 12v battery on each lane or two 12v batteries in series. Most of the cars are AW 4 Gear and NOS T-Jet 500 all stock no mods allowed.

Shift, If it was mine, I'd go with one 12V for for both lanes. Your only running stock so you'll have plenty of amps for both lanes.

you dont think people will notice a performance hit over the 13.8 volt power pack? personally I think the battery will be better..

give it a try. I think the wall wert will give less performance when you have two cars on the track. Just my suggestion, anybody else that has similar experience can chime in.
