You are more than welcome SKR. I enjoy developing improvements and sharing the ideas. I think it helps the class be more competitive and that makes for a better race program. It's no fun to get beat like a drum and nobody to help you learn.

Well finally got my gasser to stay on the track. It seemed to be drawn to the garage floor. My MM/PS paint schemes are finished. Now just need to put finishing touch on prizes and get it all ready for the hauler.

Well finally got them finished today, MM/PS. I tired to give them a team look, if ya can't be fast at least look good . They came out way heavier than I wanted, but fast or slow they sure were fun to build. As we all know to well the fastest car doesn't always win

Well the race is over and it is time to do a complete overhaul of both F.E.D. dragsters. The black F.E.D. has the same gear in it since the F.E.D. races started. That's a lot of runs on one gear. I bet there are a few F.E.D. racers would like to know how I do that . Well all you have to do is ask.

OK, I'll ask. How ? I'm suprised mine had enough power to even mess up a gear. I figured it'd smoke the motor at the first hit. I know it's going to need a new end bell and probably a new arm if I'm going to continue to run it. I tried a different gear this time and didn't notice much difference, could be because the motor is just about smoked too. Who knows.

Eagle I would love to know what it takes to make the gears last?

TGM I assume you are still running your inline. I was referring to the 4Gear with pancake motor. However on a custom inline like yours you must make sure that your motor shaft is centered with the axle. If this alignment is off the gears will not last very long.
Phantom, my setups are one plastic and one metal. The gear mesh is set tight and shimed. I then use Simichrome Polish to lap all gears in. This will align gears and smooth any rough spots out. After it is done the gear rotation will feel looser and much smoother. I use my modified gear plate with lower metal cluster gear.

I was refering to any set up. When your transfering power from one plane to another, vertical to horizontal, the center line of the gears has to be in an exact 90degree angle to the other. Proper gear mesh is the key to effeciently apply power with minimal wear. I've never tried Simichrome, but I have tried Mothers Chrome polish, and plain old, cheap white tooth paste. I like the tooth past the best, it seems to clean up the easiest, and if your gear lash, mesh, is a little tight it'll loosen it up. When it's done right you'll feel your gears loosen up and smooth out. In fact if you do this to all of your gears the car will be smooth, quiet, and quicker.
A metal gear against a plastic gear, hummm, that's not spmething you normal see, dissimilar materials used in a gear set up. I would think the metal would eat up the plastic gear in short order.

Hmmmm.....might want to look at the pinion on the 4Gear it's metal and the next gear is.......plastic. My black dragster setup used the Tomy Turbo 22T gear to a lower metal cluster. It has been that way since the F.E.D.s began. However metal to metal is by far the best.

Today in the Eagles garage I will continue with the Tomy Mega G setup. Next on the list is a new 3ohm motor with zero timing and balanced. The first set of tires I used were Eagle Racing .516s with a 22T crown and 8T pinion. The current motor is a BSRT 3.3ohm motor with green wire, not enough power. Why am I working on the Tomy Mega G? More prizes for our NTRA racers of course

I know what your saying. What I was talking about was running at a 90 degree angle to one another. Gears are going to wear different when they go from running in the same plane vs turning a 90 degree angle.

Still testing the Mega G. I have changed the arm to a 2.0 ohm arm, lots of rpm's. Modified a Wizard 23T pro predator gear to fit. Trying out lots of different size silly foams. Once I get this setup in the 5's that will be 3's on the faster tracks like Drag City. Then I can start to fine tune it.

Working on new molds today and some designs for custom parts for the 4Gear. Little bit of a learning curve with this next project. Always fun to learn something new that is useful.
