Yep, tjet or good similar blanks and comms would make it easier... my bad stuff all has burned comms. Im hoping to try a 3 lam dash to see what I can do. I have a dead Aurora quadralam arm, the comm is toast...

Sorry guys I was at work thank y'all for the tips I'm still not sure what I did wrong but I'm going to try it again and try not to break the wire. I have to get a new multimeter also mine is trying to play stupid on the ohm side now. Not sure what's wrong with it it will flash numbers on a good com then it goes straight back to zero really quick I dunno. Can one of you guys pm me kind of a walk through to winding including some good tips you use. I need to try to get a good hot arm wound before next Thursday. If y'all have any low ohm zero timed arms FO Tyco or Wizzard you want to sale please pm me.

Have not found any small commutators for sale anywhere. Yeah, I did not either. I was told that some just buy NOS arms and rewind them. Im thinking that the guys who rewind for cash (not me, ever...) have their own comms made custom for them. I have a few custom winds from a few different guys and the comms are not original Tjet, Dash, or anything else... custom. I hate the idea of cutting up a fresh arm, but if you cannot buy the comm plates you have no choice. Most of my dead arms have burns in the open spaces between the comm plates.

Yes, I found the same thing with the hot pancake arms I bought. New and most likely custom made. I have a Hudy comm cutter which can cut the small HO inline comms but the cheaper armatures have pretty poor commutators and some fall apart when you try to cut them. I have found that some I have cut are a lot worse than they look when you true them.

Think i figured out what I done wrong by looking at the other arm i believe I wound backwards lol Lewis, if you stand arm with comm on top (tyco type). Attach wire to comm tab then go over top of stack to the left and wind counter clockwise. When finished go left again to comm tab with wire and repeat process. ............ Peter

Well I redone the arm I was messing with it gave readings on all the com plates I dident try to assemble it since I have wrapped the thing so many times the com is trash and I was only working with 1.5ft of wire. I will try to get the next one in and see if it will run or make pretty colors.

Hey Lewis, Some people that wind mtrs will strip wire where contact is made with comm tab. And then just fold tab back. I prefer to solder and often leave tabs open (avoids any more fatigue on metal). Stripping allows for ohm check when winding is complete whether soldering or not. Comm's are small pieces of plastic and care must be taken when reworking. Might be way of saving some comm's when using old wire until you become more proficient at winding. No point in soldering if wire has break in it.

I have just been using Same blank and com that's why its messed up. I really dident want to mess with a new com just for practice. I haven't tried to run any yet just winding and testing with a ohm meter to get better at it before I try it. I'm gonna order some wire and some Tyco arms this weekend to try out. I'm gonna try to find the Tyco pro arms with the solider tabs instead of bent tabs.

Arms that have crimped tabs may be same as those.with.soldered tabs , not sure. Could save step in process.

There a little better com looks like. Look at the Tyco pro can motor armatures. That is what Dan has been using and recommends.
