Getting some cars ready for this race. I had to pirate some armatures from my grandsons cars and my track rescue van. I must admit I have not worked on this type of car for a while, any T jets I had all had Mean Greens or better in them. The PSO cars were ready from the last race so they needed little but I was able to squeeze a little more out of them. Will most likely send only one of them. Decided to send something different for the Super Stock class, a wheelstander. Had the pickup assembly for about 40 years and it still worked well. Trouble is you cannot put to much power to a car with this installed so I had to look for weak motor magnets, tires without to much traction, etc. On some runs it does a great single wheelie lands and goes. It will not set any records but it is fun to watch. I will try to get a video of it when my son is here with his slo mo camera.

It had a wheelie bar on it but it is going to run in the SS class which does not allow them so I took it off. I had to de tune my cars for this race as none I had fit either class. Pro street outlaw is different, I have at least 10 cars that fit that class.

My son took the video today, now we have to upload it. Running it at 13.8 volts you will see it goes up once comes down, then up again. If you notice the other car just pulls away as the Vega does its wheelies. A Camaro I once had used to do some big wheelies but it did not help its ET any.

great videos, I like the slow motion action. That would actually be a pretty cool class if everyone had to use a drop pick up system and no wheelie bar. There would be a whole new approach of getting the power to the ground.... like you said you might have to de-tune them and use rear tires with less grip. Thanks for posting those videos. I'll leave these videos here for a few days before moving them to a new thread under general for wheelie cars.

I was going to start a new thread under wheelies but these cars will be going to this race so it is a preview. Notice how the Nova pulls away when the Vega goes up in the air. The Vega would run close without the wheel stands. I had to put weak stock magnets, run them at 13.8V, and remove any mods I had on the chassis to get it to go down with only a wheelie or 2. It still occasionally de slots as you see in the one video. It would sure be a challenge to get them down the track quickly without a wheelie bar.

Very cool stuff Dave. It actually looks a lot more realistic in the video than I thought it would. Would a small traction magnet glued above one or both of the pick up next to the guide pin help anything? Just thinking out loud. It would at least help to keep the pick ups planted on the rail. Just a thought. Good videos too! I am going to start messing around with some videos this winter. Look forward to seeing more of this. Thanks for sharing.

Magnets on the pickups might help. When the car comes back from the upcoming race I will do some more experiments with it. Getting the slo mo to download in slo motion was a pain, had to download a special app. In slo motion I thought it looked pretty realistic.

I wasn't thinking of any rules when I mentioned the magnets. That was more of a exhibition suggestion...lol. I have not tried to download any videos yet, so I can't speak from experience there, but I use Flikr for all my photo posting etc. It has been soooooo much better than Photobucket and they give a lot more free storage than PB. Not sure if it would be the same for videos. Photobucket never seems to run smooth and it doesn't matter what browser or even computer that I am using. Anyway......fyi. Thanks again Dave.

I may have to give Flikr a try, sometimes Photobucket gives me a lot of trouble loading pictures.

a word of caution. magnets on the pickup shoes is inviting disaster. had a fellow try them IN braids as pickups and the car went sideways, shorting the rails. track owner was NOT happy.
if possible, take part of the spring out? cut a coil!
