I'm no expert in these matters but my cars seem to run faster on the painted tracks than the AW/AFX plastic tracks. Could be the silicone tires get better traction on the smoother surface. The track rails, power and jumpers could also be important factors.
Hopefully we'll hear from some of the folks who have those types of track.

Running faster is definitely the goal Would you say that's a flat finish, satin, semi-gloss or gloss paint? I've seen reference to a lot of different finishes is why I ask.

Never saw the tracks in person but they sure look glossy in photos.

I also have never run on painted tracks but logic tells me a pure flat surface should be better than a slightly grainy surface. Think of a drag slick vs a street tire. Yes the soft rubber helps to but the fact that maximum surface area improves traction is definite. If water gets on the road however hydroplaning will occur, ask me how I know that one. When I switched from stock track to Max trax performance improved but even that is not as smooth as gloss paint.
