So an update from Me, as you all know we kicked some butt with the Kiwi Challenge. Cars have yet to arrive back so we are racing our next slowest ones. As for the track keep an eye out, Sandfly Alley has had a huge make over along with Moonshine Race Way, the other tracks will follow suit when they get around to it. Did i mention that we have 4 participating tracks now, all with in 5 minutes of each other. Pics to follow soon, if i can remember how to do it.

Well i guess if you want to know you'll have to come over and spend some time racing with us. Like i said we race every week and every little bit helps in that 100th second advantage. There is no bright shining wizard thing we do, its just constant use and attention to detail.

Following last nights race meeting it was decided that the Kiwi challenge will stay as a standard 4 gear comp, with the standing rules unaltered. The Kiwi challenge holds a special place in our group, thats why we prep and send all of our fastest 4 gear cars. As i have said we race every week so to take our top cars from our comp to race against a field from the NTRA whilst its fun, these cars loose valuable points while away. A few of us have in the past competed in normal proxy racing in other classes but not as a challenge event.

Yes I agree the Kiwi Challenge and 4 gear Proxy Classes at Voltage Valley Raceway have always been 4 gear Stock build (you call it 4 gear Comp I guess) and that is how it should stay. The progression of this Class through the Kiwi Challenge has been sizeable. The ET's have improved a lot over the years. I will always put forth my best effort against the New Zealand cars. Just wish I was there to race with you guys weekly!

So here we go, mustang Paul has been pestering me to upload the rebuild of sand-fly alley. The reason behind the track rebuild was we needed to have less track issues for the as we call them the track promotors, with lanes not being even and the track not being straight, etc. We looked at buying in the Max track but this still wasn't what we were after. The goal was to have a track with as few joins as possible and with continuous power rails. Camp mother Grant did some home work and found we could get a PEP plastic sheet and have it cut to size, 2.4M lengths @ 150 mm wide. Now with some great help from a member of NTRA, he supplied us with some binding wire for the power rails. He has been thanked in previous emails. So we had all the materials needed to build a track, so we picked on Moonshine Park as his track was the worst. His track was rebuild over the xmass period when there was no racing, also giving time to iron out any issues for future track builds.
The track as it was before demo
With all the diecast's put away, now the fun really starts, but just not yet for you guys, more to come.

So here we are with the track all pulled up and the mdf removed. The large return pods at each end were chopped off. The track bed was releveled. The new track was placed to check that the start line and finish were correct. New mdf was laid to locate the track in a straight line. Mustang Paul organized to get the track machined at a local joiners shop on their cnc table, with the guide slot being deeper than the power rail slots.. More mdf was put down to locate the other side of the track. While this was going on all the original wiring under the track was removed as i would no longer require the 3 power taps or the wiring for the lights that used to run down the center of the track. The end spacers were made allowing for track expansion and the run off spacer was cut with the guide slots. Now the fun bit putting some colour on the track surface, grass, concrete and asphalt. As with most things i have kept some of the original track signage and used it where i can. Note the guide slot in the run off area. But wait there's more to come.

In keeping with reusing stuff from the old track the media center and corp box building has been retained with the winners ramp cut off. Now onto the tricky stuff, the slot dragon light sensors aren't long enough to go through the 10mm plastic, so we procured new straight sensors, first job swapping the wiring over on the sensors, with the help of Mustang Paul this was done, strange tho that the long lead on the sensor was the negative side, still all sensors were swapped over and tested, sweet. Just a note on this I marked the inside lane sensor so they were easier to fit. The next job was drilling the holes in the track to mount the sensors, there was a pilot hole to allow the sensor head through to the track surface and then a larger hole to allow for the wiring, whilst making sure the holes were in the correct placed. Now to fit the sensors, as I said I had marked the inside lane so the slot dragon system would work correctly, when i put together the afx track one of the set of finish line sensors were around the other way, took a while to figure out why it wouldn't work. Next note to self, when hot gluing the sensors in just under the surface don't push too much glue through, its very hot on fingers and goes allover the place. Here we are with the wire laid with the help of The Will's boys Grant and Alan. Power end of track, just used bayonet fittings to supply power to the rails. End of the track, power finishes at the finish line, the power rails are held in place with fine electrical wire. You can see the light sensors, i have also marked spots for the finish lights at the end of the track but didn't fit them. The next installment will be the finished track at its first meet, and some of the issues that were solved.
