install the magnets and armature from a TYCO 440X2! LOL stretch the brush springs a little. I don't really think you can make it competitive though. keep us informed of your progress.

Use a Tomy SRT motor, however I agree with Al. Perhaps with a lot of modifications and a stock Tomy motor you may win a round or two but the odds are against you.

It came under a body I'd gotten on e-bay. Might "tinker" with it,I like the pick up design with a bunch of mods it might be a better fit in a higher class

The HP7s I have use the Super G+ style brushes. Older can motors use brush barrels like Tyco 440s. That style motor could be easily swapped in and may offer more modification options.

The HP7 might be a good candidate for the index race. Probably what you were thinking all along.

So far I've cleaned up the stock arm and put in 440 magnets. I also installed an 8 tooth predator pinion.only way to guage perf.I have is matching it against cars from last race.It has gotten faster and is pretty close to index by my hillbilly calculations.

Never have done anything with the HP 7. Some run fairly well but against some of the newer chassis they will have a lot of work to do.
