2011 NTRA FINALS STOCK ELIMINATOR It's a perfect day for a drag race today at Lions Drag Strip. A storm blew through last night that washed off the track and left cool air, calm winds, and a high barometer in its wake. It's time to go racing! The ace team of Lions track reporters will be bringing you the action at the NTRA World Finals – Jon Thunderlungs in the tower, Ted Tappet at the starting line, and the lovely Aurora Divine roving the pits. We never miss an opportunity to include a photo of the divine Ms. Divine. OK, enough daydreams, we've got serious work to do here. First up is Stock Eliminator. These are legacy Aurora T-Jets, with stock armatures and geartrains, skinny tires, running on 13.8 volts. Seven cars qualified for Stock eliminations, led by No. 1 qualifier Wood in his patriotically painted AMX at 1.306 seconds. The first pair out of the staging lanes is SJRacer's '69 Camaro and TGM2054's Challenger. They qualified fourth and fifth respectively, so this promises to the closest match of the round. TGM is out first by .09 seconds, but the Camaro is gaining ground at the 1/8th mile. The Chevy just catches the Mopar at the first speed light, taking the win by 29 thousandths of a second, 1.809/6.68 mph to 1.921/5.70 mph. The next pair up features Bluegnuoy's Nova against PCEng's Cuda. The Nova had a six-tenths advantage in qualifying over the Mopar. PC pushes the Tree and comes up with a three hundredths holeshot, but the Nova just drives by to take the win, 1.514/8.08 mph to the Cuda's 2.313/4.64 mph. No. 2 qualifier 440gtx stages his eye-popping dayglo Road Runner alongside Ninjatek's golden Chevelle. Let's see what the Mopar's got: How about a 1.395 at 8.31 mph! Ninja heads for the trailer with a 2.398/5.02 timeslip. Wood gets the bye run in the first round. Will he take it easy to save the equipment, or make a hard pass to intimidate the competition? Wood's tri-colored Rambler rumbles to a 1.338 at 8.81 mph to set the Low ET and Top Speed of the round. That's a wrap for Stock Eliminator Round 1. Stay tuned for more from Lions Drag Strip.

2011 NTRA WORLD FINALS RATT ROD ELIMINATIONS Hide the women and children, here come the Ratt Rods! These cars are as wild and wooly as the racers who drive them. With 14-ohm arms, slip-on silicone tires, braids and shunts, and 13.8 volts under the hood, they're quick and unpredictable. With five cars in the eliminator, No. 4 qualifier TGM2054's supercharged '57 Chevy takes on No. 5 qualifier Bondoman2K's Wild Thang Jeep. The good news is that they're both great looking Ratts. The bad news is that the winner has to race No. 1 qualifier 440gtx in the next round. The big Chevy spins the tires hard at the hit of the throttle and that kills TGM's reaction time. Bondo's not looking back – he knows he's got a chance now against the quicker car. Bondo hangs on for the win at 1.616 at 6.70 mph to the Bel Air's fast-closing 1.673/7.76 mph. Bondo's driver darn near broke an arm patting himself on the back after that race. Bondo is thrashing in the pits because the racemaster is already calling the cars back to the lanes for the next round.

2011 NTRA FINALS MATCH RACES Race fans, Lions Drag Strip is about to roar with four special match races! These guys chose their classes and chose their rules. It's run-what-ya-brung at the Beach! First up is the King of the Street match race between 440gtx and Wood. These guys are two of the Top Dogs in NTRA competition, and they're going to duke it out with stock X-Traction Muscle Cars. It's the best two-out-of-three on 13.8 VDC! No time trials, no qualifying, just stage 'em and race. Wood's Yenko Camaro in the left lane, 440gtx and his Drag Pak Challenger in the right. Matt's out first by 3 thousandths, and he's increasing the margin at every increment. The win light comes in the Mopar's lane. The Challenger ran .962 at 13.21, but the Chevy was coming on strong with a 1.065 e.t. at 13.80 mph. Next up is a pair of Doorslammers. Hailing from the Lone Star State is Bondoman2K's '70 Cuda Pistonator. He's taking on one of Florida's finest, PCENG's injected Ford. The racemaster dials in 22 volts – these bad boys are going to thunder! PC's off the line first, Bondo's superchaged Mopar is spinning the tires hard. PC takes the win by a country mile at .861/14.06 to Bondo's .990/15.71. OK dragster fans, put your hands together for the next match on the card! It's a grudge race between Ninjatek's rail and Eagle Racing's Black Magic machine. The racemaster dials in 18 volts, and the ground shakes as the diggers stage. The Eagle flies to a .884 e.t. at 14.18 mph, but you can tell he's on the edge – the tires are shakin', the car is skatin', and he narrowly avoids a deslot. Ninja's down on power, but makes a smooth run at 1.651/6.58 mph. We've got a couple of hairy Altereds to close out the first-round Match Bash, featuring the handiwork of two of the country's finest resin casters. Folks, that Pure Hell Altered of Hairy Canary is a beauty – gorgeous paint and fantastic detailing. The Cadillac hearse of Eagle Racing is just as nice with great graphics. We can't pick a winner on looks, so they're gonna have to race for it. Looks like the Canary came loaded for bear. Hairy cuts down the Tree with a near-perfect reaction time and never looks back. He posts a .718 e.t. at 17.76 mph, while the Caddy stops the clocks at 1.003/10.62 mph. That's it for the first round of match racing at Lions! Take a tip from Aurora – grab a Tofu Burger, a Seawood Shake, and some of those delicious Soy Fries at the refreshment stand before the next round.

NTRA FINALS STOCK ELIMINATOR ROUND 2 It's the semifinal round of Stock Eliminator at the NTRA World Finals, and we've got a quartet of quick T-jets in the staging lanes. It's AMC versus the heartbeat of America in the first race. No. 1 qualifier Wood has his AMX running to the max today; SJRacer made the long haul from New Jersey, and he's ready for an upset. SJ's first off the line, but he doesn't have enough for the AMX in this race. Wood runs 1.338 at 8.85 mph to advance to the final round. The Camaro runs a game 1.785 at 6.85 mph. This is a crucial race. If Bluegnuoy's Nova advances, the final round will be an intramural match between the Indiana teammates. 440gtx knows he's got to get around the Chevy if he wants to defend his Stock Eliminator title. The Road Runner moves first at the green by 15 thousandths, but the Nova is right there. They're welded together at the 1/8th mile, but the Mopar is first to the stripe. The dayglo Bird flies to a 1.378 e.t. in its quickest run so far. Blue's Nova is right there with a 1.461. Both cars run identical speeds at 8.41 mph. So it's going to be a replay of last year's final round in Stock, with Wood against 440gtx. It's gonna be a battle, race fans!

NTRA FINALS RATT ROD ELIMINATOR ROUND 2 The Ratts are back, and we're ready for the semifinal round of eliminations at Lions Drag Strip. The first pair is a study in contrasts. 440gtx's unlettered black Willys pickup is definitely in stealth mode, while Bondoman's Jeep is an in-your-face Ratt. The No. 1 qualifier doesn't disappoint as Matt's Ratt runs an .874 e.t. at 15.60 mph to earn a spot in the final round. Bondoman is on the trailer with a 1.707/5.91, but he's got plenty to do to get the Pistonator Cuda ready for the next round in the Doorslammer match race. The next race will determine 440gtx's opponent in the final round. It's PCENG's primered Corvette up against SJRacer's AMX. The Jersey Rambler is out first with a two-hundredths hole shot, but that big blower on the Vette is making top-end power. The Corvette comes from behind to take the win at 1.157/10.07 to the AMX's 1.295 at 8.95. So it's Willys versus Corvette in the final round of Ratt Rod at the NTRA World Finals. We'll take a break and be right back.

NTRA FINALS MATCH RACES ROUND 2 The action is nonstop at Lions Drag Strip. While the finalists in Stock and Ratt Rod are preparing their cars, we're back with the second round of Match Races at the Beach! We lead off with King of the Street. 440gtx won the first race, so it's do-or-die for Wood. Both racers are keeping their hoods and their mouths closed. We asked Wood what he's packing in that Yenko Camaro; he said it was a 396, but we're guessing LS7 big-block. Could that be a Viper V10 in Matt's Mopar? The Ohio Mafia ain't talkin'. The cars switch lanes for this race, the Mopar in the left and the Camaro in the right. The racemaster checks the power at 13.8 VDC, and the drivers stage. The Camaro moves first, he's got 12 thousandths in the bank. But the Challenger is coming on strong. The win light flashes in the right lane – Matt's Mopar is the King of the Street in two straight! Here are the numbers: a .921 e.t. at 13.29 mph for the Challenger, the quickest Muscle Car run ever seen at Lions. Wood runs a respectable 1.021 at 12.74, but it's game over. The sound of slamming doors can mean only one thing: Round 2 of Doorslammer Match Bash! PCENG won the first race, so Bondoman has to stop the Fairlane now or concede defeat. The power supply is set at 22 volts, these guys are loaded for bear. PC is wired to the Tree, and it looks like this one's over, race fans. The Cuda spins the tires again, and the Ford takes the win in two straight at .828/14.23. The Pistonator runs .904 at a faster 15.97, but it's time for Bondo to head back to Texas. Eagle Racing's Nostalgia Dragster was on the edge in the first round; can he keep the magic going for another pass and take two straight over Ninjatek? This was a weird one, race fans. Ninja knew he had to push the lights to have a chance, and he pushed too hard – red by 11 thousandths wastes a 1.467 at 7.12 mph! As soon as the Black Magic machine launches, it goes into severe tire shake, deslots, and silently coasts down the track on the guidepin. Well, it's first or worst, and Ninja's driver made the first mistake. So Eagle Racing takes Nostalgia Dragster at the NTRA Finals. There's no time to celebrate because Eagle Racing has got to get ready for the Altered match race with Hairy Canary's Pure Hell. The Canary took the first round by a big margin, so Eagle needs some help here. Hairy knows he's got this one in the bag if doesn't make a mistake. The Grim Reaper comes through with a three-tenths holeshot, but Pure Hell didn't need to cut down the Christmas Tree. The roadster runs a .692 e.t. – the Low ET of the Meet – at a booming 18.73 mph – Top Speed of the Meet. Eagle Racing checks in with a .992 at 10.72 mph. So that's it for match racing at the NTRA Finals – all four were decided in two rounds.

NTRA FINALS STOCK ELIMINATOR FINAL ROUND You couldn't ask for a finer final round in Stock Eliminator than this one. We've got the No. 1 and the No. 2 qualifiers squaring off. We've got AMC vs. Mopar and Indiana vs. Ohio in a repeat of last year's Stock final. Last year Matt's Mopar defeated Wood's Oldsmobile in an upset victory. This year Wood's AMX has been quicker all weekend – it's his race to lose in the final. The pressure is really on. Neither driver wants to be the guy who gave away a big win. The lights go green, and the reaction times are nearly identical. The cars are wheel-to-wheel for the entire quarter mile. It's too close to call . . . TrackMate knows: It's Wood for the win! The red-white-and-blue Rambler runs 1.319 at 9.01 mph to the Mopar's 1.393 at 8.19 mph. A great race, high-fives all around! Ladies and Gentlemen, Wood is your 2011 NTRA World Finals Stock Eliminator Champion! Well done.

NTRA FINALS RATT ROD ELIMINATOR FINAL ROUND The sun is going down and the shadows are growing long at Lions Drag Strip. The cool ocean air is rolling in from the Pacific, and that means just one thing: Fast times at the Beach! We're down to the last run at the 2011 NTRA World Finals, the final round in Ratt Rod Eliminator. It's the bad-in-black Willys of 440gtx versus the supercharged Corvette from PCENG. We don't know what's under the hood of that ominous pickup, but we're guessing Hemi power for the Ohio Mafia and a supercharged Rat motor in PC's Vette. Matt's Willys has been the class of the Ratt Rod field, and that doesn't change in the final round. PC's driver knows he needs a miracle to overcome the Willy's performance advantage, while the wheelman for the Willys knows that a safe green will seal the deal. PC's Vette is out first, but the Mopar just powers around him with an .888 e.t. at 15.60 mph. The Vette takes runner-up honors at 1.173/10.13 mph. Congratulations to 440gtx for another win at Lions Drag Strip. It wasn't a clean sweep like last year's NTRA Finals, but two out of three is a good day for Big Daddy! So that's a wrap for racing at the 2011 NTRA World Finals, but it's not the end of the day. There are still celebrations and awards to be presented – not to mention a date with the tech crew in the teardown barn for the winners.

Hey Wood, Congrats Buddy, You really got the stockers figured out. It was a great day for Mother Mopar, cause you know that AMC's are Mopars now right? ;D Is that where you found that extra speed? Congrats to the grudge match winners. There were really some great looking cars entered. Hairy, I am so impressed with your altered. Not only did it look great, but that thing was flying. Rick, once again you have put on an excellent show. Thank you for all of your hard work, and thanks to your crew that helped you with the event. You all are top notch. Well on another note, Mrs. 440 and I celebrated our wedding anniversary this evening by hitting a big old mid-west buck. We are both fine. I'm just thankful that we were in the van and not my Neon R/T. It would have probably come through the windshield of my car. Later Matt
