A friend of mine that I graduated with had a '69 VW that had a performance built VW motor in it that his brother built. That thing couldn't be touched stop light to stop light. His brother had built a Karmann Ghia that held the State record for it's class. It ran mid 10's at over 130mph with stock wheel base. I remember him saying that it was definitely a hand full on the top end.

Believe it or not when I was running the Beretta there was a guy who had a VW with a Porsche engine in it which had 2 Turbos and some Nitrous to boot which he ran against the Pro Mods at our local events. It was a tube chassis car but it had a very short wheelbase and really was tough to get a straight pass out of. It was still very fast and ran 5.0s @ around 140 in the 1/8th, (that equals high 7s in the 1/4), which was competitive with the Beretta on motor only. Never got to race him thankfully as he was squirrely.

Mini Cooper Altered is about ready for body mounts. I've gotten pretty good at 4g mounts, but I still have trouble with the 3g type. This is close to how it's going to sit on the chassis. It is harder to get a body low and tucked on the 3g. If the body is really wide it's easier. This is one of my Comp builds and the hubs are cut off and wheels moved in. To get any narrower I would need to go to an aftermarket wheel. So this is about as low as this one will get. Original plan was to cast this, but I'm not sure if I'm going to do that anymore?? Maybe just a one off build.

Way cool, Jeff! Love it! Hope it works out to run some exhibition runs with it at your race. Not that we'd get to see it actually run but I think that one would be fun to watch go down the track! I am curious though, what NTRA body class would that actually come under? I've been trying to get up to speed on slammers, pro mods and such by doing a bunch of google searches. I've been stuck in the 60's with a love of old gassers but am really starting to get infatuated with the slammers.

Altereds are a special body that there really is no class for. I have allowed them to run a few times with the Doorslammers, but that was 4 gear. 3 gear Altered really has no place at all in the rules. There's not really a market for those bodies on that chassis. I just pulled this build out of my.....well you know where. Another reason I'm thinking on a one off novelty build rather than casting it?? This body is too short for the 4 gear. The front end would have to be extended. I may stop with the build here and think about it before I put the body mounts in.

I would be curious of it's weight as it sits. I sure like the looks of it and would certainly consider building a similar "altered" car. Not necessarily the Mini body but something similar that would fit on a 3 gear. Looks like fun!

The body with everything weighs 6.1g.

Got some color on the first Beretta body. OPI Coca Cola red. This will be a simple clean custom with just a few details.

Do you have a 1/64 scale Dave figure to put behind the wheel?

Do you have a 1/64 scale Dave figure to put behind the wheel? Good observation Bill . This will be Dave's car when I'm done.

The Beretta is almost complete. The "sealer" clear coats are on. Car needs to be sanded and a couple more coats applied and it will be done.
