Mooooor-rooooons , are an unfortunate part of racing....... and even just going out..........
Either late 70's or early 80's (don't remember).......... Hampton Raceway, (National had already closed) guy brought on trailer by ferry across sound from CT. prettiest Dart I ever saw at track........
Until the light turned green.............. fortunatly he was in left lane...... because he went left.......... could have shut it down..... but no !
Hit guard rail like car in pic and started rolling....... guess the roll had just started just when he hit rail....... car went up as it started to turn.....engine sceamed....... landed upright....... hit rail again.......then rolled 3 or 4 times and stopped upside down........
Took this guy only a few srconds to make it the ugliest Dart I've ever seen......... and then more than a hour for the clean-up....... parts, should say pieces everywhere............. he was the first one on the track when it opened , everyone waiting just parked,............. got to make one pass before racing started that day........... noise had to stop at sun-set

Unfortunately that sometimes happens, especially when its a new track. I spent a summer working on my car, new motor, new trans, different gear etc. I had taken it to my home track that fall and made a few passes. The following spring there was a new track opening over by Omaha,so a few buddies and myself headed over there to do some testing. Long story short,I launched off the foot brake, car jumped up, turned right, I lifted, stabed it again, this time it turned left, lifted again and idled down the track and back to the trailer. My buddies came over and asked what happened, usally that car goes straight as an arrow. Anyways we walked up to the starting line to see what it looked like. Very little rubber down and no VHT, no traction. I put it back in the trailer and headed back home. The following week, straight out of the trailer, in basicly street trim,(no mufflers) it cranked out a 6.43 @107. Sometimes it's not always the driver.

By all means the key was you lifted and did not stay in it. When I was running the Beretta on nitrous I had to lift on every pass if I wanted to make it all the way down the track. Even the Camaro which was much heavier with much smaller tires, 10.5Ws, would give a lot of trouble when it landed. Once again that car would not give trouble when running on motor, 5.80s @120 in the 1/8th, 9 teens in the 1/4, but when the juice was applied it was a roller skate. I ran on some garbage tracks too. The worst I saw was at the Orlando street nationals right around 1999 or 2000. We were there when the dawn broke and the idiot track owner never even swept the track let alone treat it. The first cars to go down the track were the poor 10.5 cars. 4 of the first 8 cars to go down the track hit the wall, the others lifted and aborted their passes. The then owner was a real loser and any fool who would run down that track took their life in their hands. I was not racing just watching but I never returned to that track. Those who lived near the track would drive hours to other tracks because it was unsafe for any fast cars.

TGM 2054, those are good times, is that a Chevy Malibu in the pix and if so SB, BB, power adder? I had a Nova with a 468 BB that ran those times on motor. It had a tunnel ram with 2 4s and lots o trouble with getting the power out at lower rpms due to over carburation.

Time to put the SMACK back in the SMACK TALK thread. I found a picture with a view that all of you NT/F FED racers know well.

Dave, I'll send you a PM. Looks like this has gone back to razzing each other again....... Which is a good thing! I've got nothing to brag about, hopefully I can get a new motor and new gear in the FED and make a descent showing next time. Good luck to everyone this weekend!

Reply by Dave 632:One guy I raced against, (I actually bought one of his BB aluminum short blocks from a friend who had purchased it from him), tried to drive his car. He hit a wall doing a burnout first time out. He had to have someone drive it for him.

I can't blame you for wanting to see that dragster retired. I would to if I had to watch the same dragster win most the races. Hey I heard about that B** A** Grape Ape. My spy's even got me a picture of it.
Racers don't be fooled by those other pictures JJ will try to show you. This is the real one.
