Pull the gear plate off and check from the pickup to the brushs for continuity. Check brush tension, they should stick out into the motor cavity at least 3/32 to an 1/8th of an inch. Check between each of the motor segments for a resistance reading. They should read between 15 and 25 ohms with no deviations of more than an ohm. Make sure brush and commutator surfaces are clean.

Quick check for brushes before disassembly........ turn car upside down. Look brushes , are they making contact with brush contacts ? .......if so touch with tooth pick see if there is any separation or movement. Either will be an easy fix when disassembled. Sounds like brushes not making contact........ usually this is at root of such a problem. ......... Peter

Coldest I have seen it here in Tennessee since I have been here. Hit 14 at my house and 7 nearby, both Fireplaces have been working hard.

What would a basic ohm meter run at like home depot? Harbor Freight , will be cheaper. Not sure on pricing. Digital readout is easiest to work with. Multimeter with ohms, ac, dc, etc.

Cheap meter at Harbor Freight is only $6.00. Well worth it for this and just having a meter around. I think I have about 5 in the house including a high dollar Fluke.
