Installed 20 LED street lights to the track for aesthetics. With lights out the lighting is about the same as some tracks I raced out.

Lookin good man, im contemplating building a table in the game room for my track, BUT this means selling my custom built poker table. But im thinking real hard on it. This was a 4th bedroom in our house that was crammed with stuff and my computer, desk, etc. Fortunately it was large measuring 21.5' long. Converted it into a race room with a 4x8' work bench also crammed with stuff. I previously had the track mounted to a wall next to my pool table in the rec room. It was OK but had less room at 18' and I had to mount it low so it was out of the way for pool playing. What you could do is mount the track to a wall so that it will fold up so as to be out of the way when you have a poker night.
Thanks to all for the cudos guys, the lights really do add a nice touch to the track. Now I will add some people to the area, including some trophy girls, for a little more realism. Still looking for some more realistic trackside, stands/ buildings.

Lights look really good. It's the small details like lights, people, trees, etc. that make the whole track POP! Good job. Jags Hobbies has just started carrying small grandstand kits and a few other builds. They are not 3D type kits as they are using photos or prints for the details, but they do look pretty nice and the price is right. The realistic grandstands can be found all over Ebay but they are proud of them!

photo print building kits are available in 1/64 scale and will look better with current and most slot car vehicles. 1/87 scale buildings, originally designed for train layouts, always look a little too small with most slot vehicles. the photo kits appear to be of good quality and not too expensive. no, I haven't tried any yet as I do not currently have the room to set them up. maybe after I move(soon). of course there are toy buildings in 1/64 scale from die cast manufacturers like Hot Wheels, Matchbox and others, but they lack detail because they ARE toys.
oh yeah, the track looks real good and even better with the lights.

Thanks Al, The lights add a nice touch. I have some photo print buildings/stands on the track which are 1/87. They look OK until you get close.

I use HO buildings and people. You probably won't find perfectly scaled buildings anyway. It's all about perspective . Set them back further from the track and it will give you a better perspective. The scale of the cars is all over the place anyways.

Great idea on the fold up track dave but i cant do it, ive even had a thought of a track thats held in air by a pulley system. The room is 24' x 15, the 24' length having an inside wall and outside wall. The inside portion of the room has a bookshelf for the wife to go up and read when she needs her quiet time ( wont be messing with that lol ) and the outside wall which is the wall ill be puting the track against has 3 large windows, bottom of the windows is only 3' off the floor. I plan to sell the table on my wives facebook and build the track at the bottom of the window sill ( 3' off the floor ) and run the length of the room. Yea it will be kind of low BUT perfect for the kids, and sitting in a chair its not bad. Ove been thinking of having a 3/4 return track... not make the loop back to the starting line but come back even to it so you dont have to run the length of the room, havnt decided on that... may give me problems with faster cars. Figure i can get a couple hundred from the poker table and use the money to fund the drag track... not anytime real soon with all the snow on the ground so later on we will see.

24' is a nice length for a track. If you use what most of us do the 1000' mark or 15' 7.5" that will give you almost 9' of shutdown. With a shutdown of 3' + 3' of metal stop strips and a cushioned catch box I have been able to stop my 50 mph cars without damage. The still hit the stop box at an estimated 20 mph however. The top of my track is about 34" high which seems just about right.

Not trying to thread jack... just to show you what i have to work with. the house was built in 1890's i doubt they had slot cars in mind when they put the windows in lol. But i think it will work fine. 24' is from wall to wall though, i plan on making a working "burn out box " as well so 1'-2' then starting then 20'7" actual length from start to finish then cool down for the rest.

What about NASCAR grandstands? Ive seen some really elaborate tracks. But havnt looked into it much, this is my first track build. Just an idea.

Looks like you have good distance but you have to figure how to get around the window that is lower to the ground. Where would you find Nascar grandstands?
