We just completed match racing the first two X3 cars we will be sending to the upcoming race.
My car was complete long ago and has always been my fastest red/green/blue tip armature type car.
We completed his car tonight and of course started to race em. I gave him the best armature I could
find which measured the closest to 5 ohm of any I had and I must have 40-50 of them.
The Car I have is haunted. It would always beat his by a fraction and they were running side by side
with his car out MPH mine every time.
Must have had 5-6 runs decided by a few thousandths. Never more than a couple of hundredths apart.
Finally after about 20 + runs his won a couple. Then mine ran its best run ever at 18 volts, on the next pass, to show
who was still boss.
I am sure this is far from over.

Hey, now is a good time to test oil.... Keep one the same, try something new on the other car. Clean it gently with lighter fluid, blow it out with computer air spray, then lube it with something new.
You can repeat this scenario until you find something really good... just sayin. Wish I had the time to do this myself!

This would be a good time to try something like that.
I have been using synthetic oil, 5w -30, which works well but
I have been wanting to try some other lubes.

I use the synthetic........ got tired of playing with different oil. Could never find a.clear.difference.

One of the guys I raced against used Royal Purple oil. 8.00 a quart running an 8 qt. pan, and that was 13 years ago,.He changed it every race too. Tried it once never saw any difference over the synthetic.
That guy used to burn pistons quite a bit and could hardly get his car down the track without some problem.
I like to test different ideas and will give some different oils a try.

Concerning oil... We race tjets at my house. Almost exclusively, stock tjets with stock tires or slip on silicones on the stock or double flanged stock wheels.
We race crash and burn type races mostly, with a little drag racing thrown in for fun. My friend was beating me consistently by about 10-16" on the 14' straight stretch on my track. I would re-oil, go again, and he beat me. After drinking a bit of wine, he finally says to me "Its not your car, its your oil". So, we set off to prove it. He said to me, clean your car with lighter fluid, blow it out, then oil with my oil. I did. I reversed the loss to him. Now my car was faster. We repeated this six times total, my oil, his oil, for three complete back to back tries. Each time my car was slower with my oil, but faster with his... I have tried a lot of different oils, but not like he did.
He had set up a little "lab test", he ran against a consistent but slow inline car and made comparisons with the oils, testing and retesting. He put a lot of effort into this and it paid off.
Would he ever tell me what the oil was? Nope. But his dad told me you need a pure synthetic, no additives what so ever. OLD Mobil 1. Very early oil, the earliest oils did not have anything in them to affect gaskets or anything, they often leaked out through the valve covers of the engines that used them.
He said early Mobil 1, cut it with something if you have to. I don't know what he used to cut it, maybe lighter fluid, don't know.
So, that's it. I bought a full can of this from Ebay for about $15.00. Sometime I need to do my own testing....

Interesting test, I have used lighter fluid as a cleaner for years. It works great. I also use a little cheap ultrasonic jewelry cleaner after that. They can be purchased at Walmart. They work great on armatures also.

He squirts lighter fluid on all moving parts lightly, blows it off, then runs car until it squeaks (must be on track! Then re-oil and test. Follow this procedure for good results.

I know Lucas sells an oil addative called " Pure Synthetic " its such a light weight oil that when you add a qt to a motor the oil level doesnt rise. We use it at our shop for almost everything its pretty great stuff.

Yeah, I got my butt handed to me... with oil. My cars were faster than his if we both used his oil. Once in a while I still buy the next best thing... I have a few to try again.
I have been told that you can buy a decent slot car/train/whatever synthetic that has no additives from Ebay and its nearly as good as the vintage Mobil 1.
