Ok guys, I have a question that I havent seen posted anywhere.... My new Tomy AFX 1/8 mile (and road course) are very slippery. I am having a hard time getting treated rubber tires (oil of wintergreen) to hook up. Silicones are ok, but, the rubber tires just are not getting traction like they should.
Is there a break-in time for track? I have not put any chemicals on the track, just vacuumed it, then wiped it down with an old bath towel. No lighter fluids, WD 40, alcohol or any other cleaners.
My old Tjet track had great grip, but it also had a ton of cleaning with all kinds of stuff over the years.
I have seen videos and reports that WD 40 isnt the best thing to be putting on the plastic.
Ideas? Suggestions, please... Thanks. Jess
*** Could this be from a release agent when they made it? If so, whats the safest way to get rid of it?

Try to scuff the surface with a scotch brite pad to just take out the glossiness. Do a little at a time.

I got my track wired and test ran it last night. I cleaned the rails with 1000 grit sand paper, then vacuumed the track. Then I gave it a quick wipe down with foamy spray bathroom cleaner.
I need to work on the joints, so some sanding is required. When I get that done, Im going to hit it with the 3m pad and just scuff it up a bit. I think it will help alot.
Thanks

When I switched from stock type track my ETs dropped about .02. It seems like lightly sanding the track should help traction some, most likely go across the direction of travel.

I have since used a 3m pad to break the shine, it looks great. I have had several joints on the road course where they were not flat enough to suit me. The Tomy track corners do not sit perfectly inside each other, and it depends on how good the straight tracks are aligned, plus, I feel that the quality of the track allows some sections to be perfect and some not so perfect. It is toy track, and its built to toy specs.
I will be block sanding each rail joint connection in both tracks. I want smooth connections and maximum tire and pickup shoe life as a result.
