I have a bunch of pancake arms with ohm readings all over the place. Can any of you guys that wind yer own use them for anything? Dunno if you can reuse any of the components. Give me a holler I prolly got 30 or 40 of 'em. If not I'm gonna toss them. The best I can do is free .... I can't go any lower than that

Don't toss them. I have never rewound an arm yet but I'm definitely geared up to head that way. If no one else wants them I'm definitely interested in them. If it works out that I can rewind them I can send you some back when I'm done. Sam/Skillet

I also have at least 50 bad ones. I have rewound a few with some success. Most of the time the comm is re useable and the stack does not go bad. The windings however do fry all the time, sometimes increasing in value or going down. Either way they are no good any more. FYI a 14-16 ohm pancake has about 350 winds per segment.

That's a lot of wire. It must be a really fine gauge.

Looks like fine hair. Did not measure the actual size.

stock Aurora wire is 36 gauge I think.

39 gauge for stock, If some of you guys want to start winding don't count turns. It is much easier to measure the length per pole.

Robert, is there any way to figure OHMs resistance by gauge and length of wire? a formula? thank you in advance

AL look under winding or rewinding . There's a calculator in the thread. You can enter size and length, and it gives an ohms value. Pretty neat.

As skillet posted, there is a calculator to be used. However it should be noted that it is not entirely on the money. It has been my experience that the motor you wind will be off plus or minus .3 to 1 ohm. This is based on my Fluke meter as compared to the calculator numbers. Why? Well quality of wire, solder job, the wind, etc.. Happy to help anybody that wants to learn as always.

I hate bad pancakes. That's why I prefer waffles
