Here are the contingency rules for Pro MOD class. There will no no changes that we foresee, however, questions and clarifications will be fielded. Some of these rules are definitely open to some intepretation. We ask that racers, on their own, follow typical Pro Mod practice and appearance when in doubt.
We prefer that rules allow a wide variety of cars to compete.
PRO MOD: Class A: 3.2 ohms minimum
Armatures: Any T JET TYPE armature is permitted. Minimum impedance is 3.2 ohms. Quadralam arms are not permitted. Armatures may be balanced, lightened, trued or altered as desired. Armature timing may be reset to a maximum of 15 degrees advance. Arms may be home wound. A list of SOME suitable armature winders will be forthcoming.
Axles: Any axle may be used. Axles must ride in appropriate location for given body style, but bodies may be recontoured to accept a different wheelbase. Divorced front axle setups will be legal as long as the front wheel fits the wheel well opening.
Body: Any full-fendered, Door-slammer Body without year restriction is permitted. Pick-ups, panel trucks and station- wagons are permitted. FUNNY CAR BODIES ARE NOT PERMITTED. Bodies must be constructed of poured resin, injected resin or polystyrene type plastic. Lexan bodies are not permitted. Wheel wells may be radiused as needed but must follow profile of racing tire used. Fender flares are REQUIRED to cover the top of racing slicks. Alternately or in conjunction with flares, fenders may be widened, lengthened and molded to the mainb body. Spoilers, air dams and ‘chin’ spoilers are permitted, and encouraged, as per Typical Pro Mod appearance. REAR AIR DAM WINGS are a desireable PRO MOD spotting feature. Body contours may be smoothed, provided the overall appearance is recognizable as a version of that particular body. Tops may be chopped, and grilles may be “laid back.” Engine Air scoops or exposed supercharger-induction details are required. Scoops may be of any design typically used at one time in NHRA/IHRA/AHRA competition, including modern Pro Stock styles and Injector ‘hat’ types. Parachutes are required as per PRO MOD practice. Recommend DUAL chutes. Engine details should be reasonably close to scale. Hoods optional if a 'full' motor (Valve covers up desired at this time) is modeled. Mixing of scales to produce an oversized engine not permitted.
Brushes, Motor: any brush system may be used, including spring brushes and brush cups.
Bumpers: Bumper as per original design are required, but may be molded into the body. Early model cars (pre 1950 shoe box or similar) May use custom bumpers, push bars or nerf bars.
Chassis: Cars in this class may use any T-jet stock type chassis, i.e. T-jet, Wild One, Thunder Plus Tuff Ones, JL Tuff Ones and AW Chassis.’ Chassis may be modified as desired, but the original FUNCTION of the design must be retained. i.e., Three-gear/ gear-trains must be retained and belt drives, four wheel drives and other extreme designs are not permitted. Bushings and/or bearings are not allowed. Original chassis length may not be extended. Top plate may be altered as desired, but original armature mounting method must be retained. Original gear mountings must be retained. (No Screecher type conversions)
Guidepin: Only one guide-pin or blade is permitted.
Gears: Any gear ratio is permitted. After-market lightweight gears, or billet type gears, are permitted. Gears may be polished, ‘lapped,’ drilled, beveled, and/or modified in any way as desired. Plastic gears may be used. Crown gears may be aftermarket.
Magnets: Any Magnet except Neo Magnets are permitted. Traction ‘Dot’ Magnets (two maximum) are allowed.
Pick-ups: Any type pick up is permitted. Pick-up braids are permitted. Shunt wires may be used.
Tires: After- market racing tires are permitted. All four Tires must be of sufficient diameter so as to contact track when car is in a normal on –track attitude. (note: front tires need only be close to touching at Meet director’s discretion.) Tires may be bonded to the wheels. Minimum diameter .382”. Maximum diameter and width shall not exceed the dimensions of the AURORA four gear wheel/tire set. Tires may be of any material, including foam and coated foam. Tires must be black. White wall tires are permitted. TIRES may be bonded to wheels. Pre-bonded aluminum wheel/tire sets are likewise permitted.
Wheels: After Market aluminum or mag type wheels are permitted. Wheels should be similar to a prototype wheel. Delrin type wheels injection molded wheels etc shall be finished in chrome, silver, magnesium or black. In lieu of this, or in conjunction with, wheels may be finished with a suitable ‘cap’ or decal which models a prototype racing wheel.
Wheelie bars: Wheelie bars are required and shall not be of extreme over-scale design. Over all length of wheelie bar shall not exceed the original chassis length. (i.e., the car chassis WITH wheelie bars may be double length)
Wheelie bars shall be of a free rolling design. No metal part may touch track surface in normal operation.
