Kinda cool...................and it not totally unheard of back in the day.
Even stranger I can definitely recall three cars running at once at Lions Drag Strip, but get this: they ran two-wide and the third car was BEHIND the front two. I can only assume that the rear car was a slower car just wanting to take lap. The memory is too old for any more details, but there is no doubt about it.

In 1969 I watched four wide on St. Louis International's new narrow lane drag strip. They were pony car 4 speeds loose off the line and chirping the tires going into 4th gear. Car's moving in many directions with only a couple feet between cars. One of the drivers was Bill Rowe Sr. in his light blue 66 Mustang fastback. His kids are still racing with much success. There was one guy behind the guard rail on each side of the track at the finish line to declare the winner in his lane and the win light would say which lane got the win.
With the track elevated higher than the bleachers, it was an accident waiting to happen that didn't till years later when a rather famous S/S racer went into the stands at the finish line and killed a bunch of people. The bleachers were moved out of the area the next year and my brother and I bought the track the following year. I was at the track the day of the accident and it was not a good day at the track. The track should never have been built the way it was, but it was way to expensive to rebuild it the right way. Fortunately for the St. Louis area racers and fans, the State of IL put in 10 million in State tourism dollars for the current track that runs in the right direction and bleachers in a safe location. Wish we could have talked them into that. They wanted to shut us down on a noise ordinance when we didn't even have any neighbors! Sorry... digressed. Four wide was wild and lots of fun to watch. Those guys were very busy banging gears and keeping it headed down track. Neat memories.

Should of been here during the NMCA Race when they had 4 Jet Cars run at once. And Yes IT WAS COOL. (I only live about 15 minutes from there) Last week they had NASCAR Night, and Rick Hendrick (YES THAT Rick Hendrick) Unvieled 2 Drag Cars of his own, one of them being a Camaro, which I helped Roy Hill shake down, the other was a Nova his father used to drag race which he restored & rebuilt. Had a blast that night, and even took part in a little racing with my GTO. I went 4 rounds, and had a blast
