Maybe some of you would like to hear my idea for a new class that I got from a real event in Texas that went down for the first time this year.Pro Mods VS Altereds this would be a new class not Doorslammers so that class would not change.Rules are unlimited pancake chassis, max of 2 poly motor mags, any brushes, any tires and any size, any gears readily available(no custom made gears),max of 2 traction mags, shunts and braids allowed, wheelie bars allowed, motor can be any custom pancake arm that is no less then "5 OHMS",and min weight of 25 grams for all cars.Racers allowed up to choose if they run Alered or Pro Mod body when entering only 1 car,max of 2 cars per racer but must be 1 Pro Mod & 1 Altered.Race would be run at 24 volts. Even if it gets shot down here at Nitroslots it will be an event at ATCO DRAGWAY in the future and I would be willing to open it to mail in racers as well it just wouldn't be a Nitroslots points race unless it's was put on the schedule for next year. The reason I think this class is a good idea is it's a builders class with all the pancake chassis included and it seems like everyone loves Pro Mod and doesn't have a class to run their Altereds, this would solve both.I got the class rules idea from Hank's Event at Skippack. Atco Dragway is a timed 15foot AFX track with over 4foot of dynamic braking shut down.I'm using the same power supply as jjwallace (HY3010E)from 0.5 to 30 Volts with a max of 10 Amps and a Slot Dragon timing system. Track is also four lanes wide, using the outside lanes to race and gives the cars some elbow room for wide tires.
Let me know if you want to race at Atco Dragway and what you think of this class idea.

Interesting....I have a couple of questions though. Everybody knows the 4Gear gear selection does not offer brass gears unless they are custom made. The 3gear chassis does, so you automatically hamstring the 4Gear chassis. Why even include it? If you want to run Pro Mod and Altered 3gear type chassis just say so.
Here is my next question. Why don't you look at the 2 cancelled races and cherry pick it? For example pick up the Door Slammers and then include this class you are trying to get off the ground. That way you are only running one NTRA class that most everybody already has a car ready for. If you do this you will not feel so overwhelmed by just one class. Do not be disappointed if not that many cars show for the other class. It took from 2011 till now to build the N/TF class. The first race was between Hairy Canary and I at Lions in which I was soundly beaten two in row. Then the following year the chassis was introduced running Door Slammers only two cars as exhibition race. Then in 2013 the N/TF was introduced in present form at the Brackets as Texas Outlaw F.E.D. got Sam aka SKR to come out of retirement and a few others by inviting them to race the class. Cordell and all the track Race Masters have worked hard to build the NTRA race program. Here is your chance to be a part of that.
If you want NTRA racers to race at ATCO this would be an easy way to do it. If your just trying to do your own thing.... well good luck with that, I wish you well.

The only reason I can't pick up an event right now is I told Ninjatek I would help him with an event in Philly this Sept and the Race at Hanks is in Sept as well.As for the class idea I mentioned,if you read the details it's only poly motor mags and lowest OHM arm is 3.5 at 24 volts.I know the parts can hold up because like I said they run this type of unlimited chassis class at Hanks, the only difference at Hanks is any type of hard plastic or resin body.Cordell races at Hanks as do others from Nitroslots and have witnessed the class and some raced in it.As for my plans with Nitroslots I plan on racing here even if I don't get one of it's events in the future, but will also host local races with family, friends, and other members of Nitroslots that wish to race.I really don't care if the unlimited chassis class gets shot down here it was just an idea.I saw post in the past about guys wanting a Pro Mod class and other guys asking if we have any Altered class so I came up with this thinking some guys might like a challenge, I know I do that's why I join Nitroslots in the first place.
Eagle, I race at Hank's in Skippack, Pa and they run both 3 and 4 gear chassis(es)in that class. What suprised me is that I beleive Jim Sgrig built more magntaction 3 and 4 gear style chassis(es) than tjet. I asked him why once and I believe he told me they were better given the rules and wheel base.
7) P/PM Pancake Pro Mod Any chassis that has 3 or 4 gears on top plate allowed. Any armature allowed that ohms no lower than 3.5 ohms. Polymer motor magnets allowed. Pickup shoe braids & shunts allowed. Traction magnets allowed, max of two (2). Any motor brushes(springs permitted) gears, wheels and tires allowed. Any plastic body allowed. All other mods OK. Minimum weight 21 grams.

This Sept will be my first time racing at Hanks but I hear the magnatraction is the one on top for now.My personal builds since we can enter 2 cars per class are one 4 gear and one magnatraction.I have built a JL T-jet Altered before that was wicked fast following the same build guide lines by chance, but that was before I ever knew of such a class and have since parted that car out.
Tom how about this as a twist let magna-traction style bodies run polys motor magnets and the other can run neo motor magnets? I got the idea from Skippack also as the stock 3 gear class non mags/(AFX) must run original stock parts and magantracions must run original stock parts. Non- mags came with motors that ohm around 6 but the motor magnets are weaker, the magna-traction make up for the poor performing motor by having better motor magnets and better traction. I believe HODRA used to run it this way as well as Echo and of course Skippack still does.

FYI...up until last race, I have been running Tjetsgrig twin 3.8ohm motors in both of my F.E.D.'s and the gears have not held up. Shimming, tolerances, etc. have all been looked at throughout the year. Going to try some new things next year if class progresses. As I've said before,.500 seems to be the threshold for stock AW gears.
Not at all meant to imply being negative however with all the discussion about new classes and this and that it being to sound like the Medicare part B book!
I can only speak for myself but it sure seems to be getting more complicated or will become more complicated. Hope if any changes or addition are made that they are placed in one area on the Nitro site. Change is good and exciting.

Hey Jeff have you tried using the Aurora AXF Magnatraction 15t crown gear?It takes a little work to get it in the 4 gear chassis but it holds up better then AW crown gears.I've also have been able to get the Aurora 19t crown gear in a 4 gear without any chassis cuts but it's a lot more work then the 15t crown gear. The other thing that helps is it would only be 24 volts so parts would last longer.Just to be clear I don't want to get rid of the F.E.D. or Doorslammer class,I thought this would be a fun build challenge and modeling challenge. As for the use of neo mags,I would like to keep it poly mags to keep the cost down and access to parts easy for everyone.
Yes Tom I have. Thanks for the suggestion though. The AFX parts are waaay better, but not good enough. The problem I found with the 15t is it doesn't catch enough of the cluster in the AW chassis and strips both. I understand what you are saying with the voltage, etc. and you are correct in that it will help. Have not tried the 19t Aurora, but I am aware of it as another option. I chose aftermarket and tried modified Wizzard Pro Predator gears, Super Tuff, and delrin....destroyed all of those along with cluster gear. Have paid close attention to gear mesh during all of this. The only thing I haven't done yet is go to an all AFX chassis ( which is next ). This is getting into tech. talk, but my only point was that I don't think the stock gears ( AW anyway ) are safe with a 3.5ohm motor even at 24 volts in a 4gear. I have also only used poly mags in my builds....NO NEOS. I cannot speak for the other chassis as I have not tried those builds yet. Like I said before, this is strictly FYI. Doesn't mean your idea needs to change at all. But if I was to enter a car in an unlimited pancake class that is allowing AFX/Xtraction and Tjet chassis, I certainly would not enter a 4gear. I would brass up and build something bulletproof.....lol.
Let me add one more thing. The traction of the Eagleracing sillies is a factor in all of this too. I think I could go to a slip on and maybe get some more life out of the gears, but I really think failure would still be inevitable and E.T.'s would drop. Can't be doing that....gotta go fast.

That's why I said lowest allowed to be 3.5ohm,honestly my F.E.D. at the Summer Nationals was only a 4ohm.Now my wife (stinger)used a 1.5ohm with the 19t crown. It's like real racing in the way you can sometimes over power the track and to much traction with not enough slip can break parts. F.Y.I. the best results I have had with testing neo mags in my F.E.D. builds is with an old Aurora blue tip drag arm which ohms around 7.5,but neo mags are know for spinning the wire right off a non custom wound arm.

CHANGE IN MY CLASS IDEA!!! OK to help in making it fare for the use of all pancake chassis and everyone feels all chassis have a chance whats say to changing it to lowest ohm arm is a custom wound 5 OHM and 2 LAM so parts can hold up.All the other rule ideas would be the same. The only reason I want a custom wound arm at all in the class is to be honest it is getting harder it find Aurora arms(mean green, tuff ones, and wild ones)in a 5 ohm range. Most everything out there today is 6.2 ohm and above that I can find.
I really like your idea for the class and I think your change to custom wound 5ohm is a good one. Timing can also be played around with and will definitely be easier on parts. Could be very interesting. I look forward to seeing if this idea takes off. I also like the idea of some new Altered builds!!
