Just bought some Super II cluster gears from Mid-America. I thought that the cluster gears on Super II chassis came with the threaded brass screw instead of the brass pin that needs to be tapped in. At least that's how the Super II gear plates that I've had for years are set up. The Mid-America gears came with the brass pin just like you would find on any stock AFX.
What are your thoughts on this matter?

Bill I have only ever seen two Super II cars. They came with a race set that I got for Christmas when I was a kid. Both of those had a brass rivet holding the cluster. I'm not familiar with Mid America's gears.

Thanks for the feedback Jeff. That must has been one heck of a nice race set, with 2 Super Ii cars included!

I don't remember the exact set it was, but when I was 7 or 8 till about 12 yrs old I would get the biggest AFX slot car set that was in either the Sears or Montgomery Ward Christmas catalog, so I know it was a nice one. Cars were yellow and red. I still have the bodies and remnants of one chassis. Had Tjetsgrig rebuild my quadralam a few years back. Still haven't used the motor in anything. I raced slot cars off and on into my teens and then put them up till 2011 when I joined Nitroslots and jumped head first back into the hobby.

Think it was a Sterling Moss set that came with a McClaren Elva and Chaparral. The best part was that Santa also brought a Hot Rod Coupe and Roadster. Been addicted ever since.

I had bought one Super II back in the 70s and I still had the chassis all the parts and even the box. I don't think my cluster gear was mounted with a screw, just a rivet like the other chassis.I was never impressed with the performance. When I saw what they were selling for on E bay I sold it, for 270 I think, even though the front of the body was broken where it was mounted. For some reason collectors put a value on the box, I don't but I am not a collector, just an all out racer. I think all the full size drag cars I had proved that. Those did not come in a box.

I'll bet the full size drag cars came in boxes too, one piece at a time from places like Summit and Jegs.

Yea Bill some of the parts did but few from Summit or Jegs, maybe the rear rims. Most of that big stuff is very specialized like the sheet metal intake. Chassis was built by Don Ness. I bought the big chief heads used as they were on a pro stock car in the 90s, the block was an aluminum 632 Keith black Chevy head bolt pattern which I bought used off a friend. I put a new set of 15-1 pistons in it as he kept melting his. I never hurt a piston running it but I was conservative with the tune.
