Hi All,
Firstly I'd like to introduce myself. I am the owner of a newly launched slotcar business. I am a 1/32 scale digital slotcar racer and a posting member on other slotcar forums who has just discovered HO Drag racing. I always knew it existed but never tried it. Just recently I was asked to go to my daughters school and talk to the kids about my work. My daughter had already told her teacher that I would bring a slot car set and when I found out my first thought was OH NO! How would I get a classfull of kids to be able to have a go with a regular layout and not have any trouble as well as keep the kids entertained? Ok, drag racing! That'll do it! A couple of runs each, quick and easy, no worries! So I bought an Auto World set and we put it together here over the last weekend to test out. My 2 kids (3yr old Boy, 7 yr old Girl) loved it and we've been dragging each other off time and time again for days now.
So, I got to thinking... I am going to build a routed 1/4 mile HO track. I am going to want it to be easy for any visitors and guests and people who have never tried it before. Here is where my question comes in. I have looked into the timing systems and I like the Slot Dragon but the 0.4 seconds from staging to go I think would be a bit hard for newbies and kids (especially staging without going to far forward). My kids I am sure would get used to it but their friends when they visit will find it too tricky and fast. With the AW set there is much more time to get prepared. Has anyone had any experience with this sort of thing? Can anyone offer advice? What about setting up your own staging and start system with an Arduino board and a PC?
I'd appreciate any help as I am planning furiously as we speak.
Regards, Damien.
P.S. How come cigarette boxes have Addiction warnings yet AW Drag Racing sets don't?
