Congratulations Pete, good guess. My stock Tyco's were all over the place from a low of .60 to a high of 1.2.

My T jets for this race were all over the place, running good one day and terrible the next??? I have had some 5.7 ohm T jets outrun many of my 5.7 AFX chassis. The slightly heavier running gear of the T jet is its only disadvantage. The dragsters however were pretty consistent!

The tires on mine are in decent shape and it ran .8s. Don't know why must be survivor specials.

I did the same test with different results. Don't know how old my sponge tires were, but the car was not consistent, so a guess is in order.

Wish Radio Shack was still around too. Found Digi-Key to be a good online resource. Electrolytics are polarity sensitive. Will go off like a firecracker if hooked up in reverse. As Bill and I stated make sure you have the correct polarity. Some of my cars would put out so much RF noise that when I free revved them, they would make the stage lights flicker.

You can find many electrolytics on E bay at low cost. Does not have to be a 1 mfd, just make sure the working volts are high enough. I just hung mine off the wire inputs for each side and lifted one of them for the picture.

Here's a photo of the electrolytics, I have one on each side installed on my track. I was getting false readings on the 330 & 660' marks occasionally. After install that stopped. I used 100 mfd @ 63v because I had them, but the 1 @ 50 will work fine. Capacitor installed.

Could be RF noise being transmitted by the cars. Try installing a small electrolytic capacitor, 1 mfd @ 50v, across your rails to see if that helps. Be aware of the capacitor’s polarity when you try that.

Interesting and worth a check out if you are winding your own.

The 2 T jets I have set for the race have both lost 1-2 mph and .05 in ET sitting in staging.
