A BIG TENT
You hear a lot about big tents these days. The Republicans say they want a ‘Big Tent’ for all people to join. The Democrats say they are a “Big Tent” party, suitable for all comers.
Well, in my opinion, Psychoslots (if I may speak for Psychoslots for a moment) and NTRA are “Big Tent” entities. We really have no agenda other than promoting HO Slot Drags, and having a good time. We welcome those who just want to look around and be armchair racers, we welcome the part timer, the newbie, the casual ‘sometimes’ guy, and we welcome the guys who take it a little more seriously. It’s all good. It’s YOUR HOBBY!
For you guys who like to take it seriously, for you guys who love to compete and compete hard……………you are welcome here. I like to see an atmosphere for that type of guy, somewhat like an Ice Hockey league I used to play in. When we played, we would play our butts off and offer no quarter and ask none. When the game was over both teams would meet over beer or two and share laughs and compare bruises. I love to play hard, especially when my opponent plays as hard as I do. But afterward lets get together and have that beer, shall we? Pro Mod is a class you stalwarts will find best to your liking and others may follow. Stick around. We welcome you guys, as you can inspire us and teach us. Check out DR HOE’s, or Sluggers Country websites if you want to see really extreme HO slot dragging! Are we competing with him? Not at all. They have their thing and we have ours. You can belong to and compete in both groups of course. Slugger himself has raced with us. For that matter, I advise you to belong to as many groups as you find interesting. I suggest you surf the net and find as many HO racing sites and dealers as you can. There are many groups, but there is ONE hobby of Ho slot racing.
What about the first time guy………the guy who thinks this stuff looks kinda cool, but just like any so called ‘newbie’ he might be a little apprehensive about ‘joining’ (there is no membership as of now) or speaking up or asking a ‘silly’ question.
By not asking that question you cheat us all. We DON”T have all the answers. No one person does. We can all learn together, and sometimes we have forget that we had to learn everything just like you will. Perhaps your question will remind us of something we knew long ago but have since forgotten. Every hobby has new terms to learn and get used to……we use them because they are convenient. When you don’t recognize a term, ask! I’ll bet there are others who don’t know or who thought they knew…………or perhaps WE are messed up and using the term wrongly. It’s a group effort here, and we are all a work in progress!
Look around the Psychoslots board. You will find a lot of guys having fun, and lots of sharing of ideas, concepts, and occasional good-natured ribbing. Flamers need not apply. How do you become ‘one of the guys”? Just jump in! We are all new here, in our own way. NTRA is less than a year old, and we are learning how to run a drag race organization, making it up as we go! Maybe your comment, idea, suggestion……is a key to a better program.
Are we as an organization “against’ in line racing?? Not a chance. We are opening new classes gradually, trying to keep control of quickly multiplying organism, and trying to SERVE the racers as best we know how. Are we “FOR” one type of track? Not a chance. Do we ‘sanction” one voltage, one track length, one brand of car or tire?? Not a chance.
The rules we race by are arrived at after great effort, in order to present an orderly, fair, and cost effective race environment.
We will be featuring some of the guys tracks in the next few months, much like a magazine. I assure you, some will be two lane T jet tracks, some will be Professionally built tracks and everything in between. Quarter mile tracks, in 1/64 or 1/72 or 1/87 scale, are all “HO” tracks in this group. 1/4 mile, 1/8 mile, 1000 foot………….or maybe yours is simply “16 feet long”, or 15 feet, or 20 feet.
If this is your first time visiting Psychoslots, I ask only one thing, if you will. If your are not drawn to join in at first, give a second and third try. A lot of guys are having lots of fun here and we would love you to join us.
