Here's a newbie question for you all...
Is that Ink-Jet decal paper any good for making decals for our slot cars...? I notice that it's available with a clear or white background...
Thanks...

Ron, I have used it in the past but you should be aware that you have to use a fixing agent/sealant on the inkjet paper to keep the ink from bleeding when you hit it with clear coat. With an alps printer you can take them directly from the printer and apply them to the car without any coating on the decals. Also, if you use the clear inkjet paper, you can really only use the decals over white or other light colored paints (yellow, silver etc) b/c the ink does not have a white undercoat to keep the body color of the car showing through. For example, If you try to put a red decal on a blue body you will get purple, or if the blue is really dark, you may have trouble even seeing the red ink of your decal. If you get the white decal paper...all of the paper that slides with the decal will be white...as opposed to the clear paper being clear surrounding your decal image. Picture cutting a square out around your decal image to remove it from the rest of the paper. What you see as white surrounding the ink of your decal image will be white on the car. There are ways to use the white decal paper to make decals for use over dark colors or white lettering but it isn't as straightforward as just printing with white ink like on an alps printer. I know I am not explaining this too well but there are pics posted on here as an example. A pic is worth a thousand words sometimes. There are a few posts floating around on the site here that give some examples. I'll see if I can find a couple an post the links here for you.

Here is a link that discusses what I was trying to explain about the white vs clear decal paper and issues associated with each. www.psychoslots.com/index.cgi?board=ps2&action=display&thread=555I had posted some pics in another link showing a couple of quick and dirty examples of how to make white letters using the white inkjet paper but I can't find that post again. I'll keep looking and see if I can find that post as well. I couldn't find the other post but here are a couple of pics that were in the other post that show how you can do decals using the white paper, so you can put the decals over any color paint. If you can print a color that is as close as possible to the paint you are using on the car you can just print a border around the decal and cut close to the edge of your decal leaving a small amount of the body colored ink as a border around your decal. In this example you could cut close to the white letters (or whatever color ink you actually use) and put this on a red car and hope the border area of red ink blends with the red paint on the body. If you don't want to cut so close to the edges of your printed decal, you can print a larger billboard area of paint matching ink surrounding your decal. This will obviously be more visible against a red body than if you were to cut closer to the white letters like in the pic above. Hope the pics help make more sense.

Gary...
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question, especially in such detail, I really do appreciate it... It doesn't sound like I'll get the results that will meet my expectations... I have checked out the ALPS printer on eBay before, and don't think for the amount of decals that I'll need that I can anywhere near justify the cost...
Thanks again Bud...
