I realize this question has been asked a million times already but I am going to make it a million and one, lol. What are the actual lengths for the different strips, i.e. 1/8, 1000 ft. and 1/4 mile for HO including staging and shutdown. I have seen several different lengths on different forums and just wanted to know what lengths you guys are using since this seems to be the best HO drag site I have found. thanks.

ovalracer63 Track lengths are most likely determined by the track builder or club. Another important consideration is the scale of track you want to represent. You can find different track lengths used at different tracks at www.hodragraceregistry.com I plan on making a track and use this formula to calulate track length. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 MILE = 5280 FEET HO 1/4 MILE = ( 1 MILE in FEET) times (desired scale) divided by (4) HO 1/4 MILE = (5280*scale) / 4 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- With this formula I calculated the following track lengths. (timed length only, does not include start area and shutdown) ( Blue indicates feet and inches. Unless using a gage that shows tenths of inch, you will need to round up or down to the nearest eight, sixteenth, thirtysecond, etc. . . ) QUARTER MILE 1/64 = 20.625' = 20' - 7 1/2"1/75 = 17.6' = 17' - 7 2/10"1/87 = 15.172' = 15' - 2 64/100"1000 FEET 1/64 = 15.625' = 15' - 7 1/2"1/75 = 13.3' = 13' - 3 6/10"1/87 = 11.49' = 11' - 5 88/100"EIGTH MILE 1/64 = 10.3' = 10' - 3 6/10"1/75 = 8.8' = 8' - 9 6/10"1/87 = 7.6' = 7' - 7 2/10"

I also noticed that many clubs split the difference and go with 1/75 because both classes (Tjet and the like are 1/87 and the inlines are 1/64 so 1/75 seems to go well with both... while not perfect, everything seems to look alright and nothing is too out of place...
Just opinion... seem like there would be more on this subject but the HO is truly 1/87 and O is 1/64 or so the owner at Daves Train shop says... Im no expert on it but I do know that my HO catalog (about 500 pages of "STUFF") covers both scales so I suspect that it is close enough to each other to make either work.

In my opinion, this is a question that has divided HO drag racers more than it has unified them and therefore I've come to the conclusion you should pick what makes you happy and not pick on anybody with something different. Since rail height and width, groove depth, surface material/paint, power supply voltage and amperage, number of taps for power, wire diameter and attachment of controllers all add to the differences in tracks, I again believe we should pick what makes us happy and not pick on anybody with something different. Ninjatek, I have to question your math on one spot. 1/75 scale 1/4 mile is 17'-6" but 1/8 mile would be half that at 8'-9". Course, I would enjoy racing on either one.

The calculated results are in feet only (inches not indicated).
8.8' is 8 feet plus .8 foot
17.6' is equal to 17ft 7.2in ( or 17' 7 2/10" )
8.8' is equal to 8' 9.6" ( or 8' 9 6/10" )
Sorry for the confusion. I'll modify the results to include inches.
