Does it matter which magnet is in front? I thought I read somewhere that certain ones go in front, I cant see where that would make a difference but bad things happen when I start thinking LOL

I have a feeling it does make a difference because I have one car running one direction and the other one wants to go the other, makes for a strange race ;D

Actually, can't tell ya which one is the front or back, but I do know it DOES make a difference. If it's not running the right direction you get one 'not so good' thing, and one 'BAD' thing. The 'not so good' is that you gotta switch the crown gear on the axle. The 'BAD' thing is that the motor isn't turning the 'correct' direction, meaning it causes 'friction' on the brushes and the arm itself, therefore creating a 'slower' motor. Also would affect the 'magnetic pull' on the arm that the mags create. ;D (at least this is what I was told when I raced the 'big' scale cars...I'm pretty sure the principle is the same in this scale ) Gee..almost sounds like I know what I'm talking about! LMAO!!! ;D ;D If I ain't correct, I'm sure SOMEONE will come in here and let ya know..lol. Ron (Bondo) Bondo's Bodywerks

might have to go to sporting goods section of Wally world and see if they still have a magnetic compass and check this out and write it down so during my Old Timers Moments I can have the wife find it

I believe it works like this but somebody let me know if I've got it wrong. If the ring gear is on the "driver's" side, the magnets are in right. Due to the timing built into the armature, I've heard it's best to keep it that way as running the arm backward makes for a slower car plus apparently does some harm to it.

They are both TJets but they run in different directions. I'm not understanding what you mean about the arm running the different direction

Sam would be a good guy to ask on this. He explained it to me on Tyco chassis. If the crown/ ring gear on the axle is facing the left/ driver's side of the car, it isn't necessarily 'wrong' but will slow the car down. Does something to the timing of the arm I believe he said. Not sure if that would be the same for a Tjet, but I would check one that hasn't been taken apart as you said, and use it to 'inspect' it (in my case, I ain't really sure I have one that hasn't been 'messed' with...LOL ) Ron (Bondo) Bondo's Bodywerks

The magnets legal for SS are black and green for the N pole (front) and white, orange or black with white stripe for the south pole (rear). Sometimes a black south pole magnet will not have a white stripe. These are very early magnets. The green, white and orange magnets are later mags and tend to be stronger.

Question.....
I have matched and labeled my magnets for strength relative to my little scale. How do you store them? Can they be all together or should they be separated?
Thanks in advance wood

Dont know if it really makes a difference. Fourty something years ago I started switching them from stock and cutting out chasis to reverse crown. Think older friend said it would run better. Was enough of a difference in smoothness that I still do this. Maybe it was the brass gears then, and became a habbit. my 2 cents
