AUTHORITY AND PROTESTS:
Race weekend interpretation of rules is subject only to THE MEET DIRECTORS DISCRETION under NTRA oversight. Protests must be during the competition, and no case later than 2 hours after the final win light for the given class. Protests will automatically be referred to NTRA's rules committee for a ruling within 48 hours maximum. (24 hours typical) The intent of the protest procedure, and the protest consideration itself, is to provide a fair and equal playing field only. The process may well find TECHNICAL violations, but the commitee is at full freedom to determine whether any competitive advantage has been gained by said violation. If the violation is considered minor and/or unintentional, no penalty shall necessarily be attached to the ruling to the violating entrant.
LIMITATIONS
Any item not specifically mentioned in these rules is deemed not legal for replacement and/or modification unless specifically deemed legal by the rules committee at least 4 weeks before the event. Therefore, any competitor wishing to use a product not specifically declared legal or any product which may be called into question is advised to contact Psychoslots, specifically NTRA, with your question or appeal. NTRA encourages originality in approach to tuning and modifying slot cars, but within limitations that insure a fair and equal opportunity to all racers. Many classes are deliberately quite restrictive inallowing modifications to the original factory product. It is the responsibility of the racers to be familiar with the class rules and to adhere to them.
NTRA LADDERS
NTRA uses a 16 car field as the norm for all events unless otherwise specifically stated in advance, or the case circumstances warrant an alternative to allow an event to run smoothly and in an orderly fashion. All entry groups larger than 16 will be routinely subdivided by qualifying times. First 16 will be class A next 8 or 16 will be class B,dependent on total entries, after 32 cars a class C will be fielded... if qualifying times are disparate enough, the field alignment of 16-8-8 is equally acceptable for 32 cars. Equally acceptable for 24 cars is an 8-8-8 alignment. MEET DIRECTORS ON-SITE will have reasonable latitude to make decisions as neccessary to reach a fair, equitable and competitive conclusion to any NTRA event. Furthermore, NTRA reserves the right subdivide a sixteen car entry group into two eight car classes in the event it will provide a better event with closer racing. ALL subdivisions shall be announced at the close of qualifying at the latest. This ensures entries are actually on site when pairings are determined. On- site directors, in accord with NTRA national directors, should make reasonable determinations to ensure fair, equal and competitive racing.
NTRA MAY at their discretion, employ the NHRA recommended sportsman ladder for any unusual class alignments that occur. i.e. 12, 14 cars, 18 cars, as these ladders are calculated to minimize bye runs. Nothing in this adoption shall be deemed as GUARANTEE that a field for example of 22, 24, 25 or 28 cars MUST BE so subdivided.
Such local judgements are deemed to be de-facto cases of good faith rulings for the good of the sport, the fair conduct of an such event, and the ongoing reputation of NTRA, WITHOUT REVIEW.
It is NTRA'S goal that all cars at the event shall be allowed to compete in eliminations, and that all competitors have equal opportunity to fairly compete.
Stated again: 16 cars is the NORMAL and PREFERABLE goal for each sub- classification. The 16 cars will run the well-known and long established pattern of number 16 qualifier racing number 1 qualifier, 15 racing number 2 etc. The preferred and normal method of 'breaking down' large fields is to break a 32 car field into 16 class "A" and 16 class "B" then excess entries above 32 will populate class "C" until 48 cars is reached. Entries beyond 48 will begin to populate class "D" all of these breakdowns based on qualifying times.

Staged: Subject to track design any one of the following is correct as ensure by the meet director, Staging Officer, or Starter:
(1) A car is considered to be properly staged when it is placed as far forward as possible without fouling the starting light. (no staging lights)
(2) A car is considered to be properly staged when the staging light. (single staging light set up)
(3) A car is considered to be properly staged when both staging lights are lit. (Pro Set up)
