Does anyone use or used the budget timing system by Trackmate? I am debating on just getting that system for now or is it not worth the investment? Thanks for your time and help.

Hey Tom
I have a budget trackmate timing system on my 1000 ft slotcarinc. track. You cant beat it for the price. It easy to set up and use. You will need a older computer that run windows 98 on it. I picked up one at the flea market for $50.00. I have mine set up with the sensors that read across the lanes. Most people set them up with the sensors in a hole drilled thru the track to pick up light above the track. If you have any more questions about this system ask away.

Hey Tjet Tony
Yes I have it on the starting line and the finish line. I did not want to drill holes thru my track. I will try to get some pictures and post them in a few days.

I've been using this setup for over a year now. For $120 you can't beat it. I have run it with no problems on an old 400mhz pentium 2. I also run it on am Ibm thinkpad that my buddy gave me. The only draw back that I can find is that the speed isn't exact. The program uses the length of the car (which you have to enter) and how long the finish line sensor is covered to calculate the speed.
There is only one staging sensor per lane, so as long as the car is behind it there is no red light.
You can even log runs and sort them later by driver, et, speed, reaction time.
I looked at the 2000, but for another $330 I just could not justify spending the extra money. If I had a club or a large group that I raced with regularly I might reconsider the 2000. For now the basic fills all of my needs.

I've used both and both have advantages. I upgraded to the 2000 and frankly miss the 60 foot times the budget system had as it helps with tuning. Tells you if your spinning off the line is the reason your mph went down and ET up. The 3000 picks it back up but for significantly more coin. I wouldn't hesitate to buy either one. Yeah, we're having fun.

LOL! Thanks NTRA but I have a long way to go before I am able to do that. First of all I have alot to learn about drag racing in general, I was raised around dirt ovals here in the heart of Central PA so I never really got into drag racing although I enjoyed watching it. I do have another question though I see posting on results and they mention buy backs, what are these? Sorry if I am dragracing-challenged, lol.

Hey TOM Well TOM first thing you do is a burnout get the dirt off the tire's you being a dirt tracker. ;D Ok Hope that made you laugh. BUY BACK'S That's where you lose first round and pay a fee to get back in to the race. At our 1 to 1 track in ORLANDO it cost $30 to race and a buy back is $20. Some tracks let you buy back first and second round and there are some that you buy a buy back before the race and can use it in later round's of a race. I think buy back's are good you have spent good money to get to the race why not get a second chance. Hey I've bought a few buy back's -----------OK more then a few. TOM AKA DEMON 340

I have a bad sensor on my trackmate budget timing system. Do any of you know what size they are? What type they are? And where I can purchase some?
