Hi All, new to the board and to HO racing - so be gentle! I have come from a 1/24 background, then 1/32. Now I am unloading all the gear and going HO.
I have already made routed wooden 3 lane track - not huge, but 12' * 4' and having a ball.
Now, i want to get into drag racing. I had a drag track for my 1/24 stuff - but was just too short . My shed is only 40' long, so the cars just did not have a good run up and spent most of the time smashing into the wall at the end. So, now, with HO, I can have a 40' track (20' 1/4 with huge shutdown and turnaround) - but as the title of the post suggests, this is about sensors.
Previously, I had a Trackmate system, - which I sold. It had the six sensor per lane kit and it worked very well - BUT.. the sensors HAD to have a light above them to work. So, i had four flexible 'bed lights' above each sensor to allow then for work properly - which I hated !! Is there a better way - or does anyone know if trackmate have changed their sensors to better ones that don't need a great big bright light shining on top to make the sensors work?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome ho, Your like a few of us guys here who use to drag race 1/24 cars. HO cars just have become more convenient. As far as I know Trackmate only has the light sensors like you mentioned. Swamper has come up with a alternative timing sensor system. Take a look here. www.psychoslots.com/index.cgi?board=bbs&action=display&thread=1311

thanks Guys - will check it out in the other thread. Basically, I don't mind so much drilling the holes for the sensors, it is just the overhead lights that give me the creeps - want a CLEAN looking unit.
