Hi All, just about to get me a new track - Todd over at TKO tracks is going to make it up for me. He is also doing a road track - but that is another story.
I have a fourty foot long shed and an old (1/24) drag track there which was routed and 11 3/4" wide.
The new PVC routed track will sit inside (on top ) of this. I have asked Todd to try an figure out a way to get the cars to come back again - turn around section at the bottom - as I am too lazy to keep walking to the end of the shed.... Does this sound do-able? The limiting factor is the 11 3/4" wide area I have. I am not sure if it would look stupid having basically four lanes on this - with two as close as possible on the 'return' track. For the wiring, I figure that I can have about two feet before the starting line, the twenty foot '1/4 mile' and then the rest as shutdown - BUT have a break in the rail after the finish line so I can have a separate power supply and/or controller to 'drive' the cars back again. What do you guys think?

As is posted somewhere on this site, I've had PLENTY of experience with a powered return road. I would make the break in the power at least 6 inches as the glitches from bleed over caused me much grief. My break was only about 3/4 inch long. The powered return road is neat and works well for running in the track if it sits for a month or two. You will find the cars coast over the foot of unpowered track anyway and it wouldn't cause much of a problem even if you tried to run long skinny oval races. Take a look at wdwaho.com to see what I did. I also made shelves to hold cars above the track between rounds and the cars were not in use. The guys like them and they hide my lights for the sensors. Just an idea. I wish I had used a less powerful light source though. If they are too bright they won't see the plastic bodies of some cars. We've had to put electical tape or dark paint inside yellow and white molded bodies for the sensors to be blocked. Hope this helps you some.
