Looking around the web and came across www.drhoe.netHis new record is .165 ET @ 113.73 MPH Amazing! Got me thinking. The fastest I've seen a HO car go is 66mph. What's is the fastest that you guys have seen?

They run a funny car class and they hit 70mph+,but the cars that hit 100mph+ dont look like cars at all in my opinion, ive seen them. their top fuel class with top fuel bodies hit in the 80mph range.they vacuum form bodies from diecast cars, you can order a video of how to do it.but to be homest that guy is alittle over the top for me.and they dont even stand near the track and watch a normal set of lights, last i heard and saw they are in a dark box room with a little christmas tree and a hand throttle, its sets off to the side of the track ,so they cant even see their car run.its weird, but they says thats how they get unstopable reaction times, but to me whats the fun of not even standing by the track and watching your own car run.

I bought the video a few years ago when I found HO drags on the Internet. Parts good, parts not so good. NOT PG rated. My understanding is that the "plywood boxes" are so the other driver and spectators don't screw up the reaction time. When both cars can run .165 to .175 et's it turns into a reaction time race only so the reaction time is all important.
We did have one instance at my track where one competitor physically jumped ahead of the green and the other guy left and of course red lighted. Hoots all around at the time but in reality everyone there realized it wasn't the thing to do and it's not been duplicated.
I wonder if being back away from the track isn't partly for safety. I heard that someone was injured when a car came off the track at high speed and hit him in the shoulder. Apparently he missed some weeks of work because of it. (If it happens again they will probably need to get John Force and Sema involved.)

What's is the fastest that you guys have seen? 83 mph in H.O.D.R.A. SP/FC class. I have yet to get a TF/RD to crack the 80 mph barrier. (Both with 32 ga. arms and neo motor mags. Remember this is with 24vdc on the "correct" scale 1/4 mile for current sized H.O. cars being 1/64th scale. No doubt Steve does some amazing things ...but he constantly changes the rules for what he calls "evolutions sake" . (paraphrasing). To each his own. Plus, the custom made timing system has never been offered publically nor has been calibrated to any known commercial standard. Nonetheless, he makes 'em go very fast.

What kind of timing system are you using? I talked to him when I first got into this and he talked about his system that somebody has made up for him. Just curious if anybody else has reached these speeds over 100mph with a trackmate or tricktrax system.

Yes.
I use the trakmate drag pro system. I am still using the older DOS based version, not the "big number display" windows version. No need to really. It's the same just that the newer windows based system is flashier. Tom C. has it and it is very nice to look at. A Big display is great for spectators though..

Cladgett "Slugger" Canady has hit over 100 mph on 27+ vdc. That's on the "short" drag strip.

That's why H.O.D.R.A. selected after research in 1997 to call the H.O. scale quarter mile 20' 7.5 ". The current cars are 1/64th scale/ gauge. The older H.O. cars aren't 1/87th contrary to popular belief ( an early hobby manufacturer unfortunate miscalculation) They are 1/76th scale / gauge. playcraft and Aurora couldn't make a chassis to that H.O. train scale/guage at the time. The cars were never accurate to the then and currently most popular train gauge. So , H.O.D.R.A. went with the longer length to accomodate the larger cars in an accurate scale and true mph representation. The smaller, earlier cars are included in the measurement system w/o this "strange ' adjustment for shorter track lengths. it just made sense mathematically to include them in the current size offering. All in all, nomatter what you utilize, just enjoy it.

Due to room restrictions, I went with the 17'-6" track like Steves. I was able to borrow one of Steve's Neo "Pro Mod" cars for comparison of Batteries to Power Supplies. Steve had his own timing system and I use the Trackmate system. At Steves track the car went .206 @ 89.? mph vs. .213 @ 78.? mph at my place. There was also a difference in the 60' (18") times. My Power Supply/Capacitor set-up seemed to have a little more Punch then the Battery powered track, but lacked the bid amperage for the top end MPH. This was just a comparison, no need to call the Myth Busters.........

Welcome pocoloco. Some incredible speed guys from cars that are as big as Hot Wheels. I thought 66mph looked cool on our drag strip. That car had polymer motor magnets with an old 32 spud in a Tyco chassis.
