I have it on good authority that GM has come down on slot car manufacturers who are producing and selling GM named slot cars. I really didn't plan to be a collector, but I have to admit I've stuck a couple "new in box" Model Motoring GM cars in my "do not race" cabinet. Doesn't look like they are interested in just selling the right to use the name either. Anybody interested in paying way too much now or pay me more later? Oh Oh, now I've infringed on the Valvoline commercial !

I would wait on my reaction to this one. This issue is coming up a lot lately and usually it is not an attempt by the big Company, in thisd case GM, to create revenue. (it would be a drop in a boket anyway.) It is a necessary step to protect a logo or brand name. I assume hopefully that license agreements can be reached for little or no cost. It's just that you have to have an agreement in place. Seems fair to me tho a tad annoying.

A friend of mine is in the business of selling slot cars and supplies of all scales and he was sued by GM for selling unlicensed MM cars. With a lot of worry and work he did settle with them. You are right in that they are just very careful about protecting their trademarks.
