OK guys. Getting started on a Gasser class Tjet for next years NTRA (yep..gonna take me at least 4 or 5 months to build one, probly longer..lol). Question I have is this. I have a blue drag arm here. It's 'new old stock', had it balanced too. Prob is there is some 'tarnish' on the commutator. What's the best way to 'clean' this? Or should I even mess with it? I know when I was real young (won't go into how long ago THAT was...LOL ) we used to do things like using erasers to clean this kind of thing. But now that I'm older (MUCH..lol) I realize this may not be a good way to do it (or is it?). Any ideas? Don't wanna just get out sandpaper or anything like that and mess this arm up. Ron (Bondo)

Erasers still work fine. I buff my armatures with 1500 or 2000 grit wet or dry. You can get a mirror finish. Don't go so far you unsolder the tabs tho! I chuck the arm in a drill or motor tool and hold the paper gently against the face.

Thanks John. ;D I assume you are using that 1500 or 2000 'dry' ? (but then we ALL know what happens when we ASSUME...LOL!!! ;D ;D ) Ron (Bondo)

Dry, yes.
Another option is metal polish with a q tip.....
