I have the same understanding........................The Mead Bros received a "cease and desist" order from unknown parties.
In fairness, I do understand the need for companies (Ford, Chrysler, Gm et al) to protect their Trademark indentities. This however seems petty and counterintuitive to producing goodwill. If their products were being mocked, they MIGHT have a point..............but in this case their products are being celebrated.
What comes next? Will I be hunted down for calling my slot car entry a Mustang or 'Cuda.
Another story along these lines: Years ago, a famous Model Railroader built a model of a lumber Company. Looking through a Phone Book, he chose a likely name for his 1/87 scale 'business.' This guy (JOHN ALLEN)) was a professional photographer by trade and a master of the art. He was also a master model builder. He photographed his model and produced a startingly realistic image. As a joke, he sent the photograph to the real lumber company, and added a note saying in effect, "I liked the name of your business so much, that I named my company after yours." He was subsequently contacted by the lawyers of the lumber business and told to "cease and desist. (I always wonder why you have to cease AND desist. Isn't enough to cease?" What if I cease but stop short of desisting?) Anyway, he explained the joke, and all had a laugh and the matter went away. This was in a simpler time ( somewhere in the 1950's) and people still had a sense of humor, I guess. Today he would likely be forced to remove the sign from his model and promise to never do it again. (which is what I guess "desist' means)
Is it just me or does it seem more and more, that every day, we are increasingly surrounded by "fun police?"

This whole thing blows my mind not just for Troy and Gary but a whole list of others as well. I don't know what happened to the Meads, but I can guess. Some may say the late 60s and Early 70s was the Golden Age of Slot Cars, and while that may be true, I have felt the last 10 years should be considered as well.
Since I went to my first Slot Car show in St Louis some 15 years ago (on my way to a Model Contest I was entering). There I met Phil Pinion (RRR) for the first time, and bought #4 of 100, 37 Ford Pro Mod resin witch I still own I was hooked, I saw a resurgence of Sweet T Jet Slot cars being developed. Company's like Model Motoring, Johnny Lightning, Dash, and smaller individuals like RRR, Troy & Gary Mead seemed to pop up on a regular basis.
I feel lucky to have raced Slot Cars in both Golden ages, the 60s/70s, and Now. I think the first ended with the Baby boomer's growing up. I feel the second may be ending before our eyes with Automakers clamping down on licensing, and relatives of old race teams with their cease and desist orders.
Just look at this group....Mopar, Chevy, and Ford guys not only race these cars in HO scale, but buy the cars in real life, I know I do. Than look at the race teams I'll bet their wasn't a single driver, or team that wouldn't be thrilled to see someone recreating his car and racing it in HO scale back in the day. I guess we won't ever get back to a place where MONEY, and Libality isn't everyones first concern....DARN SHAME!

I heard it might be a decal issue not the bodies so much. Can any one confirm this?

The decal issue might indeed be the answer. Still, its kind of a ticky-tack-foul and just generally annoying.

You would think the auto companies would want the free advertisment they get from parent and youngster modeling ther cars an growing up with this in there mind , instead of spenting millions to have lawywers hunt down and try to suck the blood out of the little hobbiest trying to fill a need. I will keep and run my old car into the ground but I WILL NOT BUY A NEW ONE! from the big three EVER AGAIN!

its called greed. They want to make a dollar any way they can. Look at Slixx decals, they once had a huge nascar selection and now they dont. it wont change anything, it will just make it harder thats all.

Hey everyone,so wonder whats up,well i have been into some other hobbies lately, this accounts for my lack of racing. well at least i have a hook up for some really cool bodies ,but he does them for the 4gear AFX chassis, but these beauties are a work of art,he hasnt listed on ebay in a couple weeks but iam sure he will,i got an awsome 1982 Corvette Funny car Body and a 1978 Corvette funny car body,he alos does some great Decals. anybody interested he is hairycanaryjr,so if you need some very cool Funny car Bodies he is awsome and its very easy to put rear wheels under the body for that cool tubbed look, you guys should have a AFX 4Gear Funny car Meet but i hope the mead bros get everything worked out.and ill try and get a car going for some racing with you guys

I work at a Ford dealership. I can tell you if their problem is in their decals because of using the blue oval logo or the bowtie or any other manufacturers logos then it is a load of crap. Ford for one, has a lot of other problems with their corporation to concentrate their time on. And I'm sure the others do as well.
