Thought I'd start this section for guys looking for info on making molds and or casting bodies and parts. This is also a good place to share Vaccum Forming and Decal Making tips etc.... I'm not a expert in this stuff but don't mind sharing what I know.

Sam what brand RTV silicone do you use? How much do you purchase at once? About how much is the cost? You also have a PM.

Recently purchased "Alumilite" casting kit. Got it at Hobby Lobby with 40 percent coupon, figured now was the time. First mold and few castings came out better than I expected. Was wondering though, what might be the best way to store a mold between uses. I figure one of our expert casters might have the answer to this.

I keep my molds in a special container made from SCJ Formula #35*12700. That container is then sealed in a dark metalic container. That container is then stored in a much larger climate controlled container. Or....to put it another way. I put them in a Ziploc bag, then a filing cabinet inside my house. Just having some fun with ya PETER, nice hearse I like it.

Another question for the experienced. Kit that I picked up had a 1lb. container of silicone (14.5 oz plus hardener) made two molds from this. Does this sound about right? Roughly 1/2lb per mold?
.........................thanks again, PC

Look up Hobby Lobby on your phone if it's smart phone. Go to the coupon and there you have it. Just show your phone with the coupon on it to the cashier.

For some really good info on many types of crafts, including molding and casting, look up the "crafsman" on youtube. NO T in the word, it is "crafsman". The guy is an artist and has tons of info on stuff we could use and share here.
