Bracket & Index Racing
These classes are a lot of fun and the best thing about them is that you don't have to have the quickest car or spend a lot of money to be able to compete in them. Actually I've been having some good luck by using some of my slower cars in bracket racing. Reason being? Well it makes the other guy nervous when my car is about ½ to ¾ of a way down the track and they are still waiting for their green light to come on. Sometimes the green comes on for the patient ones but often the red light illuminates because they (including myself) give in and and pull the trigger a little too early. If you have a Auto World set and no timing system then there is still hope for running these kinds of races. Looks like Mr. Wizard will have a timing system compatible with the new AW set that shows Reaction Times (R/T'S) and Elapsed Times (E/T'S). I'm not sure if his system will have dial in capabilities or not. You can still do this type of racing as long as you have a E/T and R/T number. Just get out your calculator and figure out who ran closer to their dial (without breaking out) then add on their R/T to see how far off each other were. The person with the lower number wins. If you both red light then the guy that red lit the least wins. Index racing is basically like Bracket racing but you have the same E/T for both cars with a heads up tree. This is a fun class to run and the racing is usually really close from start to finish. These classes will never go away and are a must in my opinion for any Slot Drag Racing program. Remember we are or were newbies and nothing is more discouraging then having your butt handed to you. I’d like to hear about your guys race programs and how you set up or prepare your bracket and index cars. I've found by preparing your car for each run the same helps out. Clean your tires, pick up shoes and try to stage in the same spot every run. When you practice, don't run the car too many times consecutively. This only slows the car by heating up the motor and will give you a false sense of security by running a slower E/T number. What happens is the car will cool down before the race and you'll end up running quicker during eliminations causing you to break out. I like to to try and do 3-4 passes with allowing the car to cool between runs in each lane and write down my E/T numbers each time. When elimination time rolls around I'll look at me sheet and dial a little lower than my last practice run. So lets here your thoughts on this type of racing. I like heads up racing the most but really do enjoy these classes as well.
A preview of how the timing system will look that Mr. Wizard is working on specifically for the new AW sets.
