Welcome to Nitro Ron!
I don't have any experience with these sets so if somoen can chime in and help it would be greatly appreciated. Have you tried contacting Auto World yet?

I have a pre-stage led that works intermittently as well. Found some unrelated pinched wires too. It seems the quality control department at Autoworld has better things to do. I'm planning to exchange or return mine soon.

I'm planning to exchange or return mine soon. Here's a photo of the tree innards. All of the pre-stage leds are tied together as is the stage and all but the red leds. If any of the per-stage or stage come on then the problem is in the tree boards. Either a poor solder joint at the led or the plug from pcbA to pcbB has a problem. I suggest if you can exchange them, Do so. I would like to know if any one has exchange with A.W. Mr.Wizard

Thanks for that Mr. Wizard! I'm waiting on a reply from AW. I don't live anywhere near an NTB store, and had my nephew pick up my track for me. I'm hopeful that they will work with me on this, however, I will repair it if not. I assume it will be a bad solder joint. I've done plenty of that sort of thing.

UPDATE: AW has responded, and say they will ship me a new start unit. I will update when I receive it, but so far I have to say I am very impressed with their customer service.

AW shipped my new start unit, and... *drumroll please* ... it functions worse than the original! Non-functioning stage l.e.d.'s. Looks like if you want one of these to work correctly, you will need to do a bit of work on them.
I applaud their customer service, but AW is lacking quality control. I realize this is only a $100 set, but I expect a bit more for my hard earned cash. I hope it does help grow the sport, but I'm afraid there will be many disgruntled customers out there who won't give it a second chance.

Had a problem with no power from the controller to the track. After about an hour of messing with it, turned out to be a bad connection between the contact strip, and the track rail. AW needs to get their QC up to speed.

Sometimes if you have too much light on the sensors it does not function correctly.
Try different degrees of lighting. Same goes for the win light. Too much is no good.
