I am looking to build an HO drag track in my basement, but was wondering if anyone has done a "how to" track build? I know I could just use the cheap plastic track for now, but I would like a more professional looking setup since I don't plan on taking it down once it is up.
I have access to all sorts of woodworking tools (even point to point CNCs).
I Have tried different searches, but only come across photos of ones that have been built. I am sure there are useful threads that I have accidentally skipped over, could you please post the thread links here?
Thank you for any help. -Chris

if you have access to CNC then plan on buying some PVC sheet and cutting strips then CNC the slot and and the slits for the continuous rail. the longer the strip, the better. if you can actually get 8 foot strips square on the ends to match up for endo to end use and your CNC can handle that and keep it all lined up, that is your best bet. there are different lengths to the timed section depending on the area you can put it. 15'3" is approx 1/87, 17'6" is approx 1/76 and 20' 7.5" is 1/64. you will then want to construct the shut down after the powered lanes out of .25" thick by .75" wide steel strips laid out to complete the drag strip. you will use 4 of those and the gap between will be the slot. try to draw all this on piece of paper and get an idea what it should look like when finished. if you want to do 1/8 mile scale, halve the numbers I have qouted. otheres will chime in the ideas that might be much better.

don't know what others use for rail, but I used 2.5x0.5mm flat stitching wire (on edge), same as I use for my other tracks.
For the actual track pieces I picked up an oddment pack of cheap wood floor laminate, they lock together really square. Routed slot and rail pockets by hand.
Have pics over at the SCI forums.
