Hey guys, didn't want to keep messsin with LDS T&T thread. Might upset Sam (just kidding Sam). I think "nosub" answered what I was wondering about mag height between the two. M/T's have a taller profile right. Don't know AF/X or M/T's much better than 4-gears. Kinda went from T-jets to Tycopro to Riggen. Yea, and some time ago. Have three 4-gears first one was AW, when I saw drag cars had to check it out. Since have been told AW's are inferior so picked up two NOS for upcomming race. Never seen the nubs on any plates I was just guessing at what they were. Did Aurora have different generations of the 4-gear? Ones with actual traction magnets, or were the magnets just dropped lower in the chassis to make the magnatractions. Or maybe the 4-gear and magnatraction were never considered the same. Still learning - - - - PC

Did you ever get a DUH moment? Well I had a few of them. Matt thanks for straighting me out on the nub issue. I never knew there was a difference. PC after looking close at some of my chassis I noticed the magnets were not seated all the way down. Set them in an whala. PC and anyone else here are some pics of Magnatraction and Non magnatraction chassis. The cut out in the magnatraction chassis is to allow a taller profile magnet. The magnets have a dual function. One to drive the motor and two to supply down force. You can swap lower profile non mag magnets into a magnatraction chassis. Also some non mag chassis have a hole in the bottom like the Magnatractions to screw the gear plate in. Top row. First two on left are non mag. Next two are mag. Bottom row. First one left Mag. Second on left non mag with screw hole. Last two manatraction. []

Nosub thanks for the new pics...difference from bottem is obvious with contacts. I'm guessing these are all NOS (no body mounts, and they look on the grey side). Or maybe the non-mags are originals and the magna's NOS. The NOS that I picked up all have the cut out bottem. Did Aurora make different versions of the four gear. Have seen what I thought were A/FX with a dot mag for traction, maybe they were AW. Just thinking because their 4-gear has the two dot mags. .................PC

I just had one of those moments, I think the cutouts were to get the magnets lower or closer to the rails to create more downforce (1/4 square thing for magnetic force). You'll notice whats left of chassis under magnets is thinner than chassis floor in either version.....now I have to check the magnets I have for these. Never noticed a diffreence, maybe their all magnatraction. ..........ehhh gotta spend more time getting these to run right than thinking about them before race..............PC

PC Aurora made the 4 gear Non Mag first. Then came the 4 gear Magnatraction. Both had no body mounts. The body had a screw post and a support for the rear molded in . They are a grayish type color. The AW 4 gear are all magnatractin type molded in black with two dot magnets and body mounts. If you see a mag or none mag with body mounts they will be the standard 3 gear AFX type. With the exception of the AW 4 gear. Your head hurt yet??? I can feel mine spinning.

Yea nosub, the head started yesterday. You must have been up early today but thanks for the info. Not knowing for sure would have bugged the sh..... lets just say botherd me. Are all the A/FX you see now days AW. Any that I have all have that black chassis, and usually one dot mag. Never did A/FX as kid, do you know if they were before or after Aurora II. I remember them comming out. But when I had enough money to go get one, guy at the store had Riggens. No brainer as kid, got three Riggens instead that day. .......PC

The AW 4gear motor magnets work great in the Aurora chassis, they are taller though.......I just cut the "nubs" off......

Depending where you see them they will be AW. If you see them on the internet they could be either. All new AW AFX style chassis will be black. With the exception of a few special releases AW tosses in the mix. I believe Super II came out before 4 gears. Not sure I never saw any in my area when I was a kid.
