What's that sound? Yes, it's the sound of slamming doors, which can mean only one thing: Nostalgia Pro Stock eliminations are about to begin at Lions Drag Strip.
Sixteen cars are qualified for the NP/S show, which means four full rounds of wheelstands and power shifts. 440gtx set the pace in qualifying, take the top two spots with his mighty Mopars. But the Pro Stocks are notoriously edgy as racers try to find the balance between traction and downforce. We'll find out shortly who got it right and who got it wrong.
All 16 Pro Stockers have answered the call to the staging lanes. Track conditions today are noticeably warmer than during Saturday's qualifying session. Air temp is heading toward 90 degrees, and the track could be tricky.
We start off with No. 1 qualifier Dandy dick Landy in 440gtx's Challenger against No. 16, Ninjatek's Vega. The Dandy One puts down a dandy run to open eliminations and continue his torrid pace, .871 at 15.97 mph. Ninja's not in the game at 2.011/5.42.
Next up is a late entry from Wood, a sharp looking Oldsmobile. He's racing his teammate, Bluegnuoy, who's driving a red, white, and blue Vega. Wood's out first, but it will be a long, quiet ride home in the transporter after Bluegnuoy straps a 1.123/10.88 on Wood's 1.295/8.76.
It's a Chevy showdown in this race as Scottman's Monza squares off with Ninjatek's Chevelle. The Monza takes the win at .972/12.15 to the Ninja man's 1.577/7.05.
We've got a pair of Camaros for this matchup, Bluegnouy's sharp F-body in the near lane and TGM2054's screamin' yellow Camaro in the far lane. Bluegnuoy advances to the second round with a winning 1.314/11.84 to the yellow car's 1.692/6.25.
Next up is 440gtx's Motown Missile Cuda, the No. 2 qualifier. His opponent is JoeSkylark's blue Buick – what else would you expect? The Buick boys have been struggling with a broken body mount today, let's see if they've got it fixed. The Missile launches like a rocket and runs .949/14.29 to the big Buick's 1.688/7.40.
Two more Chevys pull to the line, this time TGM2054's flamed Chevy II against Nosubfor3's gold-and-red Vega. That Vega would make even Grumpy Jenkins smile when it runs 1.171/10.19 to top the Chevy II's 1.399/9.60.
No. 3 qualifier Nosubfor3 calls his Camaro the Silver Bullet. He's up against Pceng's Chevelle. It's the Bullet that takes the win, 1.098/11.78 to 1.786/6.57.
We wrap up the first round of NP/S eliminations with yet another sharp-looking silver Camaro, this one a second-generation model from Wood's stable. He takes on what may be the world's only Pro Stock GTO from Pceng. The Pontiac is out first with a quicker reaction time, but the Camaro has enough motor to drive by at half-track and take the win, 1.098/11.50 to 1.379/8.31.
We'll be back with Round 2 of Nostalgia Pro Stock after a brief intermission.
