Guys,
I stopped by my local Big Lots today -- I always cruise the toy section for diecasts and scenery items for my track. They're blowing out the Hot Wheels Drag Strip Demons diecasts for $3 each. I paid $5-$6 for 'em at the big box stores when they first came out.
They had quite a few altered wheelbase Coronets (Honker and "Stacked Deck"), AWB Chevy II ("FarGone"), and Funny Cars (Bruce Larson USA-1 Monza, Prudhomme Arrow, and Pulde War Eagle), and a just a couple of Hawaiian front-engine dragsters.
When I checked out with these gems, the cashier gave me a coupon good for 20 percent off my purchase tomorrow only (Sunday, 10/9), so that's $2.40 each. So of course you know I'm going back to buy some more, if only because the wheels and tires, injector stacks, etc. are good for scratchbuilds and diorama projects. Of course, I'll have to give back half of that for California sales tax.
So if there's a Big Lots in your neighborhood, check it out for HO drag race cars. I'm willing to buy these cars for guys on the forum, but you've got to PM me today/tonight with your order before I head back to the store tomorrow morning. You'll have to pay postage, but I can get quite a few in a small Priority Mail box if you don't care about the cards.
