Hello fellow HO Drag Racers! I have a small group of drag racers that race in the evening on the first Saturday of the month. We race on an old aurora afx track measured 1/64th 1/8 mile (10 feet and change I'm drawing a blank on the exact length). No timing and scoring or win lights at the moment, just a practice tree and a guy standing at the finish line to call out who won. Thats going to change soon as I just ordered the AW john force set so that we will now have a functioning tree and win light. If it looks like this group is going to stick around I'll look into timing and scoring to keep track of records and possibly bracket racing. What we did for classes was on the first night we had 4 guys show up based the classes on what cars we had.
The classes we decided on are:
Super Stock: ( our biggest class we had 27 cars between the four of us) Non Ultra G AFX Magnatraction and Thunder 500 tjets. Box stock three gear chassis, slim lines ok. Only parts available in the "pit kit" are the only suitable replacements. Must be a street car appearing door car
Pro Stock: Any Door Slammer body on any pancake chassis.
Open Outlaw: Anything goes production based vehicles , the class appears to be dominated by the tyco 440x2 chassis. Although there are a couple of can motored cars and a lifelike or two that have been going rounds recently.
We also agreed to add Open Fuel to the schedule. That class will consist of the new Top Fuelers and Funny Cars that AutoWorld put out, and the old four gear dragsters will be welcome as well.
I dont mind driving a couple of hours from the tampa bay area to go to a event. I unfortunately work every weekend but I usually am free at nights and sunday afternoons. I dont own anything too fast but it all about the fun for me. Let me know if there is anybody else in the area!

We have drag races on a AW drag strip permanently mounted on boards. We hold IROC races in conjunction with some our FHORA and HOPRA road races. We hold races in Land O Lakes, Lakeland, Leesburg, Orlando, St. Cloud, and Melbourne. Second and third AW drag strips are under construction by other members. You are welcome to attend any of our events and we can also loan you road race cars if you would like to participate in that as well. Feel free to contact me directly at: slotcar58@yahoo.com. I am located in St. Cloud, FL.
If we can get enough people interested, I would not mind holding a drag race only day at my raceway!

That flhora group looks like fun! I believe I have a couple of 440x2 cars that should be legal for box stock in that group. I raced all over that state for years with the now defunct as far as I know 1/24th FSRA and Fl. Div 2 series and that looks like a similar series to those.
I've been reading up on the the forum the last couple of nights and it sounds like those proxy races are a good time as well. But I'm not exactly sure how they work. Best I can tell is someone Hosts a race and posts the rules for it on here. Then people mail their cars to that location and they get raced and sent back to their respective owners. Then the host posts the results. Here is where I'm confused, the winner of a pair is determined by et right? Because it would be unfair to include rt if one guy is consistently slower than the other that's driving the cars, when its not even the owner of the cars that driving. Anyway I'd love to build some cars for these races and maybe even host a race once I get timing and scoring setup on my autoworld track that came in the mail today ;D

Anyway I'd love to build some cars for these races and maybe even host a race once I get timing and scoring setup on my autoworld track that came in the mail today ;D Nope, it's a race, and that means that the driver and the car determine the result together. If it were all about ET, then we'd just hand out the trophies after qualifying. By including the driver in the equation -- even if he/she is a proxy driver -- then there are all the possibilities that come with "real" racing -- holeshots, red lights, late leaves, spinning the tires, getting out of shape, losing a motor, etc. Having said that, the proxy drivers take their job very seriously on raceday. Nobody wants to be responsible for losing with a quicker e.t., or drawing a red because they pushed the lights too far. But stuff does happen -- in previous proxy races, I've lost with cars that could run Low ET because my driver was late, and I've won rounds I shouldn't have because my driver was wired to the Tree. At Lions Drag Strip, we pair up the cars, the drivers, and the lanes randomly every round, so it all evens out. And to avoid any conflict of interest, the host club is not allowed to compete in the race with its members' cars. The racemaster selects the class, but we run according to the NTRA rules, which are posted here. Proxy racing isn't for everybody, but I encourage you to enter a race and see what happens. It's all about having fun with toy cars. Cheers, Racemaster Rick

I'll give the proxy racing a try for sure. My experience with "tuning" a ho scale slot car is swapping and truing tires and a little oil on the axles. But I'm not afraid to learn. I'll print off the rules for the classes tomorrow and see what I can come up with. I'm sure I'll have a million questions.
The driver situation will probably prevent me from being able to host a race. The only person I would ever see racing it with me would be my brother but he is all over the map with reaction times. I tend to be more consistent to the eye but we don't have a way to time the r/t yet so I don't know for sure.
Thanks for the help!

It's all about having fun with toy cars. Cheers, Racemaster Rick I wish some people in the other scales and forms of slotcar racing would understand that single sentence. I've had way to many experiences with nincompoops that cant understand that you may have 300 bucks invested in a single bracket car but at the end of the day its still at toy car. On another note. I've printed out and read the NTRA rules. Of all the rules and different classes and all the different cars that I have. It looks like I have 6 cars that are legal for n/ps and thats it. It looks like I've got some buying and building to do. Any suggestions on what class would be good one for a HO newbie start with? Thanks! Jason

Jason It's a great group here on Nitroslots, no flamers or trolls, and everyone is usually on best behavior. If you have some NPS cars, then you've also got some Ratt Rods, since they are essentially the same chassis with different bodies. (Shunts are legal in Ratt, but I've run my NPS chassis in Ratt Rod without shunts, and they seem to run just fine.) The beauty of Ratt Rod class is that you can use any old broken, busted, nasty body, paint with some primer, and call it a Ratt! I'd say that overall, the Gassers are the most popular class, so if you want to take the plunge, that would be a good place to start. Have fun, Rick V.
