Door slammer I seat to Lions for match race weighs 26.2g's, but thats with 4 motor magnets! Discussed this with Ron (bondoman2k), before race. I was very curious what it would do and more so if it would be legal for a door slammer event. I've asked about it before but never really got an ans. (that being a yes or no). The first 4g I got was shortly before joining Nitroslots. When I put it on a friends track for the first time my thoughts were ........lets just say it was a let down from what I expected to see from a drag car, all painted up right from the factory. After looking closer at chassis things seemed even worse, plate and floor not being perpendicular and so on. But it got a new arm. (mean green) and still seemed slow. Next thought was the magnets, was ther room to add two more? There is, I did, and it made a noticable difference. Guess I'm anal compulsive because I'll try anything that seems like it will make something faster. After hooking up with NItroslots, and reading rules on door slammers thought this might work for this class. As per rules, magnet pockets were modified, chassis was lightend, and ceramic motor magnets were used. Just, four of them instead of two. But ther was no mention of how many could be used in rules. Would I be bending rules? I don't know, maybe. But maybe others are doing this also. Seemed logical to me. Maybe someone can tell me would this be legal (yes or no). If anyone is intrested in doing this, I found it pretty easy to do. Front tabs are cut off of top plate, and plate just rests on additional front magnet. Between plate clip and screw I've had no problems with plate moving. Though Ron (bondoman2k) has told me of someone that has a clip that fits plate over front magnet. Magnet poickets are cut down to chassis floor in line with inside of side pocket walls. This will leave a small projection that keeps additional magnets from shifting. sides of chassis are cut to floor just behind top point of plate tab pocket. Everything between the cuts cleaned out to floor. T-jet sized magnets fit between chassis floor and plate (like they were made for it). In rear magnet pockets are cut the same way. Then second cut was done by putting original magnet with additional magnet attached in top of magnet pocket to get point where to make cut in chassis. Did this on an AW chassis and magnet fits between traction magnet housings and top plate (again t-jet sized magnet). Inside of chassis (between sides) where hole for plate screw is needs to be arched for clearence. This can be done without interfering with hole for plate screw. Do this a little at a time, and trial fit magnets till right. Put back together with additional magnets and your done. If anyones going to try this and has any questions, just ask. BUT, IS THIS LEGAL ?? HELP ! PLEASE ! ..................PC

From your description it is not legal. At the same time I'm curious as to how you did with that setup. Tried but could not find results for your match race. You might even want to post some photos of the chassis.

Ninjatek, thanks for the reply. Though your response does seem to leave this open, in a way. Just checked the rules for Door Slammers - under chassis it says lightening permited and magnet pockets can be modified. From what you said yesterday - two magnets are used properly seated in factory locations. I couldn't see more than that being in factary location. But please, I'm not looking for an argument. Been involved in racing before and rules were a way of gaining an edge. If only two motor magnets are to be used, maybe someting like "no more than two" needs to be included. Like it is for traction magnets. The Doorslammer rules state magnet pockets can be modified. Does this refer to gapping? If it is, it seems this is changing the original position of magnets. And properly seated in factory location is no longer possible. Like I said, maybe "no more than two" needs inclusion. But anyways, me and computers don't get along. Seems like some might be intrested in this. If you'd like pictures, send me PM with address of where car might find photographer. I'll send along. ................PC

Couldn't find race results either. If I, remember correctly, first pass was mid .8's second low .8's. Think it was a "Hairy Canary" altered that did .7 something. Maybe until us nimrods learn how to make something fast we should be allowed to use 4 magnets. LOL - another class for us speed challenged - LOL ..........PC

PC, until now, there really were no 'established' rules for Doorslammer. Before Rick's match races, we had only run them once before, at Sam's race earlier last year. And, Sam and myself were the ones that started this class. We discussed it back and forth for about a month and a half, before we 'proposed' it to the other racers. And, it was a HUGE hit. As far as actually 'needing 4 magnets to be fast', you don't. My DS car (the one on the current background pic, The Pistonator, blue 'Cuda) has a Tuff Ones arm, ohms out at 6.5 ohms, matched and polished (by me), AW/JL dark blue and white ceramic magnets (early JL Thunderjet 500 cars, first release when they came out, in 2000 or so?), shimmed with one layer of electrical tape on the back of the magnet, ORIGINAL Aurora 4 gear MT chassis (New Old Stock from Lucky Bob's, or Jags, can't remember..lol), Wizzard brushes, AW crown gear from newer 4 gear chassis, early 'stepped' pickup shoes for AFX/Specialty chassis, sanded before soldering on Radio Shack braids, shunt wires, rear slip on silicone tires came from Bud's HO Cars, .520 or so was diameter after mounting, sanded and trued new AW 4 gear rear rims, siliconed the tires to rims. . Used one trac mag on left side of car, had to 'shave' the chassis to get it to fit, since the original chassis actually sit closer to the track than the newer AW chassis, used an AW trac mag, since the Radio Shack mags are a little stronger and did not want too much traction and drag down the arm. And, of course, all the gears, which were all 'stock', were 'lapped' in using a toothpaste mix and oil (interesting smell btw, a 'minty' smelling oil! LOL). Other than a resin body, with lots of detail, which brought the weight to almost 27 grams, that was it. Running on 26 volts, where Sam ran them at, it qualified with a .666 (!!!) and never got slower than a .669 through all 4 runs it made to the win. Which is why I said you CAN build them with much less 'radical' mods. And, btw, found out something new the other day. Try going to your local hobby shop that carries slot cars, and buying braid for 1/32 scale cars, like Carrera or similar, and cut these down to use on the HO stuff. Radio Shack desoldering braid, which is what we've been using, is FULL of flux. And, of course, that's not so good for electrical contact. I know it'll be more expensive than using RS braid, but should make them run a LOT better! ;D Ron (Bondo)

My Pro Door Slammer didn't have any extra traction magnets added to it and it finished in the runner up position!!!

Hey guy's - Never really thought it would fly as far as rules go. Did it for grins when I first got AW 4g. Before I new about Nitroslots, NTRA, or proxy racing. Just had my fingers crossed is all. Intresting about the braids, I just told "Camaroguy" about the RS braid. Think he was using 1/32 braid. Never thought about the flux being a detriment. Hmmmm....... ................PC

Actually Jason, you're right. That's REAL close to what a roll of the RS 'flux' based braid cost! And, if you guys read Jim's recent post (today) on the "Drag Builder Competition" here, and over on the HT boards, you will see why I'm saying that. I'm DONE with the braid from RS! I guess I just never thought much about how much flux was in it. I knew it was there, but now I know it's TOO much! And, thanks for the link Jason. I think they're gonna need to get more in, cause I have a feeling it's gonna go REAL fast! LOL! ;D Ron (Bondo)

I'm curious as to where the FED's such as the ones cast by Eagle Racing and Hairy Canary fit in. I know there are no races scheduled for them or the 4 Gear Altereds, just wondering if the two would run together or seperately.

Maybe I'm missing something. Saw Jim's post under DBC. Was there more info on tweaks someplace else? With the improvments in times mentioned, only mention I saw was about braids being changed. Be real intrested in seeing what he did. Hey Ron, does this mean pick-up work for the "Pistonator"? The .666 time you told me about and mentioned again was part of the reason I felt bad about your car not hooking up at Lions. Thought I was going to have something to compare 4mag/4g to. And getting to run with one of the big dogs was an ego boost. ................PC

PC, I'm gonna go through the car anyway, just to be sure the arm is still good and see what kind of wear the brushes and gears have on them. ESPECIALLY after that 'quick' run at Sam's, and the subsequent 'slow' runs at Rick's (altho it may not have been 'slow', may just be a tire prob, maybe Sili's will help that). Also thinkin about tryin to do my own Silifoams for it. Ran real good, considering it's on 'slip on' silicones! (Of course they are WELL glued to the rim..lol) And, yes, I WILL replace the braids as well! Plus, I have a few more 4gear Doorslammers 'in the works' for racing next year as we speak. One will have one of my 'new' Duster bodies on it (that one is getting molded right now too, had it done, but the mold was bad so I gotta redo it before I make them available to others). Actually have 6 more 'new' Doorslammer bodies to mold yet! (and a few for other classes too) Ron (Bondo)

Oh yea, PC, Jim said in one of the earlier posts (I think on HT, not sure) that when he sends the cars back, he will make notes on the time slips of what 'tweaks' he did. So, if you don't see it mentioned before that, you will still find out. Ron
