Is there a reason for pick-ups to foul abnormally fast? Not sure if that's the right word (foul), but getting dirty to the point where the pick-ups have to be cleaned. Have a 4g that has this problem. Won't make more than one pass without problems (45" of test track). First pass fine, second probelms start to show, third car dosen't move. No problems with any other cars. Can't figure this one out. Happening with bare pick-up and with braided. Tried cleaning and oiling rails on track too, several times and problem still exsists with this particular car. Need help here. .........tia, PC

Hello, New to this board but not to HO racing,I have just started getting into HO Drag Racing, I would say try to increase your P/U shoe spring tension and also check to make sure that the contact at the shoe hanger is clean. On my HO road race type cars I decrease the shoe tension to get them to handle better, at times this will result in the shoes arcing just before the power starts to drop off adding more tension cures the problem.
As far as the hangers I cut a strip of 400 sandpaper and feed it through the slot in the hanger to clean the hanger and also to take the sharp edges off,I have found this helps even on new chassis.
the other thing`s that comes to mind would be oil contaminated Brushes or something is binding (Arm. gears, Hubs) this will cause a high amp draw and cause arcing at the shoes

Hey Dennis, thanks for the imput and welcome aboard. Problem is that all the things you've mentioned have become routine every time I take down chassis (cleaning that is). Springs have been stretched, both pick-up and brush. Different springs different brushes tried. Arm ohms at 6.1 each pole. Gears have been laped and relaped. Hole in chassis for arm/spindle has been reamed. Thought I found the problem last night. AW chassis seemed to be draging. One traction mag had been removed. Switched t/mag from gear side to other and no more drag. In fact with mag on gear side chassis was sagging. Maybe magnet pockets are off, causing more pull on one side. Thats fixed but didn't solve shoe problem. Ironic maybe but first pass with car keeps getting quicker, second pass and back to the same thing. Should mention brush pockets have been reamed also, no hanging brush. Maybe this one becomes parts, or gets the final fix. End of my rope on this one. .........PC

PC,Thanks for the welcome!
Check one more thing look at the rear "hook" on the shoe see if it is hitting the rail. I had to grind the tail on some of my cars, sorry I forgot to mention that in my last post!
