Hello all, I'm a noob to the site. I've been lurking for a while and decided to share my current MDF dragstrip project that is still in progress. I've also tried a different approach to this build using copper tape and some fishing line with no metal rails. This is a portable track for the garage and I don't plan on getting to serious with it as the 1/32 scale stuff get most of my attention. It's probably just going to be a past the time sort of thing. Here's a couple of pic's on the progress so far. I also plan on adding a return lane and of course the electronics.

Sweet, that'd be alot of fun trying to launch without crazy wheelspin! Just like the big boys

Great looking set up. Does the copper tape work ok for you with HO scale? I was thinking about doing the same thing without the rails. Keith

Keith It works great, but the trick is the fishing line under the tape to act as the rails. It won't work with just the tape like the bigger scale stuff. Here are a couple of videos of the track.

Hello again, Have you had any trouble with the tape peeling up? Did you seal the whole surface? Is the tape secured in any other way than just the adhesive? I ordered some tape and am going to experiment. Read somewhere that you could recess a copper conductive screw every so many inches. Take care and Race on. Keith

Keith No, I just rubbed it down pretty good. Did you seal the whole surface? No, I painted all sides with Dutch Boy Eggshell laytex. I did take a scotchbrite pad to the entire surface once it dried to smooth out any rough areas. The last step was to wipe it down with a very damp cloth before laying down the tape. Is the tape secured in any other way than just the adhesive? No, the copper tape runs under the track and that is where I made the connections. I did connect my 1/32 layout that way. Good luck with your project, and let me know if I can help in any way.
