I am getting ready to build my 3rd and final drag track. The objective is to build a premium facility to host 12-15 premier proxy races per year including our own 4 gear series, bracket series and potentially host some NTRA races.
My current Maxx Track is 15.3' timed with 4' of shut down. I love the track and it has served us well over the last 3 years, but I am wanting to build something on the next level that will elevate my involvement within the hobby. I want to use forward thinking to insure that the track will continue to meet the demands of the hobby as it continues to grow as well as be able to accomodate any and all types of events as well as car orientation.
I personally believe that at this time the 4 gear is on its way to becoming the chassis of choice simply due to mainstream availability of the AutoWorld sets. While they may or may not be the fastest, I know that there are more reliable gear sets and gears that are in the works to be released in the next 6 months that will aid in bullet proofing the drivetrain. Once the weak link has been fixed I believe that all have opportunities to be very successful moving forward. That being said the 4 gear is the closest to a 1:64 scale which would equate to a 20.625' timed 1/4 mile drag strip.
My plan has been to build a 1:64 scale strip with timing at the 1000' and 1320' (1:64 scale of course) to best replicate 1:1 racing as well as meet the demands as speed increases and shut down areas shorten. I am working with space just shy of 30 feet so I can make it happen, but wanted others opinions regarding lenths they prefer as well as where they feel the future in scale sizing is headed.
I am open to any and all opinions and please understand that there are no right or wrong opinions on this.
thanks in advance.

Don't know about everybody else, but I think most folks build as long of strip as they can. So if you can build 20 ft plus and a nice shut down go for it. A good timing system and power supply are a must.
I am no expert on HO history but the TJets, AFX, Magnatraction and 4Gear are pretty much the same as when made. I am speaking of scale not detail or type of body. This is very general not exact. I am sure some of the real collectors can discuss in detail body changes.
You said you knew better gear sets are coming out for the 4Gear. Is this from Auto World or someone you know? Please share, if this is so.
Oh, you still have time to sign up and race with us in the up coming Summer National July 28 & 29. Even if you just have one car. Anyway, good luck with your track.

Hey Matt, like Eagle said, "don't know about everybody else". Do know I wish I had thirty feet to play with.

Matt I don't have much advice I don't have a track yet. I have plans for one in the future. And want to soak up all the knowledge I can from others. I have the space for a 1/64 scale 1/4 mile scale track too. I thought I could have sensors positioned in different parts of the track with connectors that can be switched from one length to another. Used for testing purposes mainly or different race setups. Because most of the proxy races are all different track lengths. That way a guy or gal could tune his or her car to that certain length track. Just a thought. Good luck on the construction of your new track.
